Merc CLA 45 AMG
Ive come across this car today and dont know much about it.
£40k 4 doors 0-60 in 4.6 secs.... Seems to tick a few boxes as a proposed family car!

Looks promising....
Amazing the amount of power they can squeeze from that little 2.0l 4 banger. Hopefully there won't be a coolant leak in the warp core leaving be stranded in a neutral zone.

So I've seen a couple of these (albeit not the 45 AMG version) and I have to say that from the back, it's probably the ugliest car available at the moment. Given the new A Class is such a good looking car, I really don't know what the Merc designers were doing with this. I prefer the rear of the the Fiat 500L.

Do you also like Susan Boyle because she looks different?
To be fair, I passed one the other day on the motorway when it was dark (as in pitch black) on the way back from London and the LED rear lights are nice. The problem comes when you get close enough to see the rest of the rear-end... I was then sick. |

I like the rear end, something can be different and good. It would be boring if we all liked the same thing. Very tempted by this when my 640 lease expires next May.

Sheps is the expert on these but has gone off the CLA45 in favour of the A45. Something about the suspension set-up being different on the saloon version. He may pop up here and offer his input. Pretty sure he added some comments to RealThing's thread posted above...

Yes, I was pre-sold on the idea of a CLA45 for months and months, and the initial reports I read/watched on the A45, which is mechanically identical, only had me more excited. But as the initial reports on the CLA started to come through I began to doubt my initial choice; the CLA (as a woke range) is primarily aimed at the US market and they have softened the suspension and reduced the noise. Given what I'm coming from, and on the basis that the A45 makes the best noise possible from its 2 litre 4 banger, a reduction in the noise of the CLA will be a backwards step, as will a softening of its dynamics. Delivery was also a consideration; my C63 goes back days before Xmas and I can still get a spec changeable A45 order that ties in with it. The CLA is looking Feb/March. It's also circa £3k more than the A45, which is a lot for a boot! - although I'll caveat that comment by saying the spec of the CLA may be enhanced over that of the A45 in respect of interior trim.

Ive seen they offer AMG performance suspension, i wonder if that would stiffen things up on the car?
I need to go get a brochure and spend some time chatting to an AMG guy at a dealer cos on paper the car is a good bet.

Pretty steep in comparison to my C63; bare in mind my C63 is leased through MB Corporate on a 3+35 non-maintained basis, 20k per annum and has about £4k worth of options I pay £750 + VAT per month.
Dropping down to 15k per annum on the A45 (but upping options to about £5.5k) MB Corp are quoting £680/month on the A45. It's clearly not being supported to the same degree, presumably because MB feel the A45 (having a list price circa £20k less) will find more homes without the same level of support necessary.

Steep lease rates there. Nice deals on M5s at the minute, yes the fuel is a bit higher but if you save a bit on the monthly lease it would help contribute.
Sheps did you consider the M135i option? |

I'd consider the power train (in a M235i) but I just can't come to terms with the looks (in particular the front end) of the one series.
