e90 325i 2006 not starting!!

So when I put the key fob in, press down clutch, and brake, all lights come on normally but when i press the push start i get like 2-3 cranks and it stops like the power drained(lights dim etc).

I tested the battery even though its only 2 months old and it tested good full 720cca.

when I try to start battery it is at 12.6v, only after i jump started and shut off. But the 12.6v doesn't start it like i said a couple cranks and its like it dies. after it doesn't start when i read the battery voltage its, 12.4v like its dropping .2v every time i try to start.

The only way i can start the car is if i boost it with another car to 13.6-13.7v and while the other car is revving only after it hits 13.6-13.7, so due to the rev its maybe hitting a solid 13.75-13.8v and only then it starts. No other way.

Honestiy, it proabaly might just be a defective battery.
The car is starting with a boost which is a good sign, but you should take it back to the place where you purchase the battery.
I have heard that if you dont use an "official' BMW battery that you might also encounter problems like this.

do you have warranty on the battery? If so exchange it for a new one. It could be a defective battery. If second battery still gives you issues, I will troubleshoot alternator.

Keep us posted and good luck!

even though my battery is an Exide with exact OE specs? the original BMW battery is also manufactured by Exide. also would it still be that issue because I've been using it for the last 2 months with no issue since the new battery replacement. registered it an everything.

I just finished my 3rd parasitic drain test and after 2 mins the car dropped to 200mA and after 30 mins it dropped to 27mA, anything over 50mA is apparently parasitic drain.

So if I dont have a drain on the battery, and after a 13.6v start when turned off it maintains the 12.6v need to normally start the car, but my car wont start with only 12.6v

So question now is what would be bad in the car if i need the extra volt(13.6v instead on 12.6v) to start it?

bad starter, alternator? I'm stumped. any replies are much appriciated

yeah it could be the fact that although its still the same brand battery, it might not work because some sort of coding is needed for it. Maybe it might not have been installed properly and something or another happened while you were driving that may have bought up the condition. I dont think it could be the starter or alternator b/c it starts with a boost but not with the installed battery if im reading OP correctly.

If you didn't register or reset the vehicle electronics, the new battery will not be charged properly. The electrical system control unit adjust alternator output based on the age of the battery. Also, the vehicle requires a much larger battery than many of the aftermarket auto stores tell you. I ended up going to the dealer for a new glass mat battery, with close to 1000 cca, because I was having problems. And that was after I registered my aftermarket battery with my Bavarian Tech tool.

Sounds like a bad starter, which will end up killing every new battery that you put in.
1. a new battery needs to be registered to the car so that the vehicle/ alternator does not send too much voltage back to the battery.
2. You can test voltage drop at the starter to confirm a bad starter. I just went through it but i couldn't afford a new starter so i took off my old one and had it refurbished. works like a charm.
3. if it is your starter, have fun with that one. its a monkey and a half to get to, hiding itself under the intake manifold.

keep us updated!

2006 MY N52s have issues with the starter. If you're on the original starter, there's a pretty good chance that it's going bad. Get it replaced. Mine started smelling like it was burning. I push started it after that and drove it straight to the shop.

06 330i. I am new to the forum and I am not sure if I am in the right place but I need some help. My girl friend bumped the car in front of her the other night and the next day the car would not start. The air bag did not deploy, the bumper cover is scuffed, the right head light lens is broken, and the hood is pushed in a little and jammed. I checked the positive battery cable and put a new battery in. When I put the key fob in and press the start button and I hear a relay activating on the interior right side. The car is about 45 miles away and I am going to bring it home this weekend and that will make it a little easier. I am good at troubleshooting but this is my first BMW to try to figure out. She did not have full coverage so I would like to sort as much out as I can to see if we can get it to start. I'm ok with ordering a service manual or technical info if I need to. Thanks, Joe

Are you sure that the positive pole plug has not tripped from the impact? Other than that, not sure what would cause this.
