MY 335i SCHEDULING ITSELF FOR AN EARLY SERVICE!? IS THIS NORMAL?

Hello All. Pretty sure there are plenty of BMW experts lingering in this forum who can help answer my questions. Thank you in advance for any info shared. So I checked my email today and was surprised to read a message from my BMW dealership that basically said "Your 2012 BMW 335i sent a service request for standard scope and engine oil services". Does this mean I need to bring the car in for check up and oil change? I've only clocked in 3000+ miles from zero. My car is a 2012 that was purchased just this 2013 (5 months ago to be exact). I'm dreading to visit my BMW dealership because it's - BMW of Rockville. Have heard and read lots of horror stories about them.

My other questions are: Is my BMW dealership obligated to do a check up and change oil at 3000+ miles? If they tell me to go home and bring the car back in once i've clocked in 15,000 miles, should I put up with that? I'm asking all these questions so that I would know where I stand. Nobody likes to be cheated. Looking forward to the discussion. Cheers!

Mystery solved. Checked the vehicle status using the car's onboard computer and it said something like "10/2013 Oil Change in 11,000 miles". Probing even further, even though my 335i was sold to me as a 2012, she was put together back in 10/2011. My good guess is the car's preprogrammed to give notice at 10/2013 for an oil change hoping that it has clocked in around 14-15,000 miles.

My only question now is this: When I bought my car 5 months ago, i'm guessing it had in it roughly 17 months old engine oil. Do I still go to my BMW dealer and have them do an oil change plus the standard scope check that the vehicle is asking for? Or is everyhthing ok since I only have 3000+ miles on the car? I'm now remembering something that my SA said, that the car didn't need an oil change when I bought it because it was brand new. Obviously the car will tell me when it's time to visit the dealership. Any thoughts regarding the aged engine oil?

If its under the maintenance warranty then bring it to the dealership for work till its out of the warranty. As for the oil, when your car tell you to change it then bring it in and that goes with other services it will tell you. you'll need to change it either within the a certain miles (15K) or within a certain time, which ever comes first.

I think that email is just a automated email

So i'm at BMW Rockville today to have the 335i's first ever oil change and scope check at 3000+ miles. My SA said regardless of age or mileage, when the car says it's due for a check or oil change, it will get it. Glad that it comes with 4 years free warranty and service from new but i'm pretty sure all that freebie will soon lapse with my mileage way low. What to do when that day comes? I'll keep you all posted soon as my car is done in an hour.

Ok, scope check and oil change done. All is well with my car. I feel a bit silly having created my post. Was truly puzzled why I needed an oil change at only 3000+ miles. Anyway, got royalty like treatment for the day at BMW Rockville. Very pleased with the service and the car. Seems a waste having my oil changed at very low mileage. Till next time. Cheers!
