I was wiping off what seemed to be like rain drops on the hood of my car, and elsewhere, however, they weren't coming off easily, and used my finger nail (through the cloth I was using), and now there are two spots on the hood where you can see the lines of my fingernail. I doubt that it could be very deep at all, since it was through the cloth, however, even after wiping it down with a wet cloth it is still there. Any suggestions on how to get this off of my hood. The car is Jet Black, if that helps.

no dont wax it, use SratchX with a new foam applicator. Apply the ScratchX to the pad and press down as hard as you can on the spots where the scratches are and move the pad up and down over them, applying tons of pressure. Do that for about a minute or two, wipe it off, and do it again about 4 times. I think you'll like the results : )

then wax that area since the ScratchX removes any wax

but make sure you use a new and clean foam applicator pad becuase using something like a microfiber towel or something, can end up scratching your paint since the fibers mike be too abrasive when applying that much pressure

never used it, but im down with it. I guess you would use it the same way you use scratchX but requires fewer passes?

Wax won't help. ScratchX might work to temorarily hide, but I have never found success with it.

You probably will need a stronger polish such as Manzerna (or milder Z-PC) which will help your situation -- especially if you apply it with a Random Orbit Buffer.

Suggest that you read the sticky threads on top of this forum for some hints on how to detail your car.

By the way, don't do that anymore... JB is just brutal for showing every little mark -- and they are usually self inflicted.

Yeah at first I use to love scratchX because it got the job done even though it took some time, but I recently tried z-pc with a porter cable and with only one pass 85% of all the imperfections were gone!! It's also great by doing it by hand as well, so its not necessary to use a PC.

I'd recommend Menzerna Intensive Polish(IP) or Poorboys SSR3. I use both. The IP is a little less abrasive then the SSR3 so it takes out most mild imperfections. I used the SSR3 this past weekend to get rid of some swirls and minor scratches that the IP wasn't fixing and it removed 95% of my imperfection s on one application.

BTW, get yourself a porter cable. Sure it's not a necessary tool but your arm, legs and lower back will thank you. Performing a proper detailing without one would be absolute hell. Your JB car will look incredible as well.

Agreed on the Porter Cable buffer. Had mine for years now and wouldn't trade it for any other. Just make sure you get the one without the metal bolts on the head...no trasfer of heat from the buffer to the paint.

I've found the polishing pads from Griots garage to work best. They have velco backs which hook into the buffer head quite nicely. I've also had some good experience with the Griots compounds as well as Poorboys.

I have all balck cars...so I'm used to the whole polish twice a year thing.
