DEAD BATTERY question

need some help.... here's the cliff notes:
  1. installed sub amp in trunk a few months ago, no issues
  2. few weeks ago wife sat in car watching son's football practice and listened to radio (low volume) for almost 2 hrs = dead battery, I had to come jump her
  3. few weeks later (today) I sat in car at practice, TOOK KEY OUT OF DASH.... 2 hrs later = DEAD BATTERY

I think it might be that by not opening and shutting the driver's door after shutting off the car, that the car's systems are still "on".... including the aftermarket sub amp.

Any help here?

Or it's time for a new battery? If it sits over night does it start in the morning? If so then you may be on to something with the system shut-down. How is the sub amp wired, switched power or always powered?

yea, it starts fine in the mornings. But I will take it somewhere for a free battery check (original battery in this 2007 335i, I'm the original owner).

I was thinking that since I never opened the driver's door after parking, it never went into sleep mode.

The sub only comes on when the power is on. When I insert key the radio will work, but the sub does NOT come on yet. When I start the car, then the sub amp powers up.

What color is the eye on the battery? Red, Yellow, or black? If yellow or Black then its it needs replacing.

Comments about AutoCraft Gold Battery, Group Size 94R, 730 CCA:

Thanks to guy from AAP he installed the battery for me too. Replacing BMW battery is not as easy as other cars since its in the boot and need to remove all kinds of electronics to reach it, but aap tech did it quite nicely. great buy.

And did he register the battery? This necessary due to the IBS needing to "relearn" the new set up.

OK, finally had Advanced Auto install this for me:
http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...___#fragment-2

Took the guy 20min or so..... he must have touched something as my cluster fuse was blown post-battery install and had to be replaced.

NOW MY 'SERVICE ENGINE SOON' light is on.

Any insight/advice on how a new aftermarket battery (or blown fuse) would cause this?

I'm thinking of replacing my own battery as well. If I use the original BMW battery do I still need to register the battery? I don't have the BT scan tool to do so.

my CEL went out on its own after 1 day. Car is running fine.

and I found an indy who registered this Advanced Auto battery for 29.99.

all is good, saved big bucks vs. BMW install, will report back if I have any problems through the New England winter.......

They tried to save your settings by using some device to keep power. Only it doesn't work with our cars.

Have you gotten the battery registered as well?

If you have a white battery made by Exide and you get the same specs battery OEM, you dont have to register or code your new battery. If you dont go with same specs battery you will have to code it.

I went with OEM battery and same specs. New part number from Exide come with a little more CCA for cold starts for our cars. PRE LCI. Did not register or coded new battery. All is working good ever since. I replaced my battery myself, just follow youtube videos by Auto Experts, there is a good one for BMW e90s good luck!

And you are golden then.

This exact same thing to another member on here the other day. Pretty crazy not to have the whole cluster working for the sake of saving time and Date settings.

I think its more than that:
1) hold the sunroof button IN (tilted open) for about 1 minute while it goes thru an entire cycle to re-learn all the end points
2) need to do a window re-learn procedure to teach each window motor where the top and bottom is
3) time/date
4) radio stations
And i think a couple other things... Forgot. But yea i would rather have the car relearn as opposed to a blow fuse.
