So, I went to O'Reilly...

...With a story similar to this person, I originally walked in to buy some Torx bits to clean a friend's car's MAF sensor (incidentally an E90... Not a forum member though; he doesn't speak English at all)...

...Then spending over $70 later I wound up with all this PLUS a few things I had left over from when I detailed my truck (excluding my girlfriend's slippers on the right LOL)...

During polishing (I thought matte black was kinda tacky until I saw this... Not too shabby but I still prefer it shiny):

After pics that night... I didn't finish until 7:30 PM...

...Or so I thought. Me and my girlfriend went to the Dark Harbor event shortly after, but not only was there grass inside and out after they ran out of normal parking and had to park on a lawn (thank God I sprayed a few coats of Scotchgard on the mats), I parked under an elderberry tree and woke up to my car being covered in a sticky mess of tiny fallen leaves, berries and pollen ... But since I missed a few spots of wax, I had to clean it anyway. Evening at the car wash:

This morning:

Wish the swirls are 100% gone, but still better than what it was (in fact the camera is kinda exaggerating it IMO):

Yeah, I bought some pads for the polisher... Or are you talking about buying another machine altogether?

That machine is really nothing more than a wax spreader.

Yeah you need a proper dual action orbital with proper pads.

Get a porter cable or the harbor freight one for 60 bucks.

Get a 6 inch Lake Country Backing plate and 6.5 inch lake country pads.

Use the M105 compound to compound the car first, polisher on speed 6, you don't need to do slow passes, but work small sections at a time.

Then use menzerna sf4500 polish with a black pad, working small sections, moving the buffer slower with decent pressure 3 times over the area, then 2 times easing up on the pressure and a little faster.

After that your car should be swirl free and ready for a coat of wax. Don't forget to clay if necessary!

OP, I have a Makita rotary buffer, a Meguiars dual action and now a Harbor Frieght Dual action as well. I got the Harbor frieght DA so I didn't have to swap out from a 5 or 6" pad to my 3" pad. At $42ish, not a bad deal.

http://www.harborfreight.com/6-varia...her-69924.html

just print up their 25% off coupon and take it with you. That DA is not bad at all compared to my Meguiars buffer that cost me $150ish. Combine that with Meguears DA microfiber pads and DA 300/301, you can get most if not everything done.

Thank you all for your input. I'll keep everything in mind on my next detail, which may be as soon as after I move next month, where I can hopefully find an apartment with a garage or at least a carport... But for now, the place I've temporarily moved to only has parking on the street or a narrow driveway where the covered portion is usually only occupied by the landlord, so the car is usually filthy 3 days later.

I'm pretty content with my current results, not to mention this took care of my main concern where the car was either improperly waxed or not waxed at all before the detail; there were parts that felt rough and didn't bead up when it last rained.
