Magellan's new GPS line has lightning quick Voice Commands
I hope BMW R&D are watching. They could learn a lot from this $600 unit.

Very nice. We have an 06 Honda Odyssey, and the nav is the same as in the Acuras. It's quite good. Voice commands are INSTANT, as fast as in the video you linked. No waiting for a "beep" when you push the voice button, plus you can control all sorts of things (commands like "Go Home" or "What time is it?" or "Nearest Chinese Restaurant" or "Temperature 68 degrees").
It's always a shock how fast voice commands work when I drive that car after being so used to the Bimmer. I press the button and wait for a beep for a couple of seconds, then realize the car has been waiting patiently for me to speak. Another cool thing it does that I wish our E9x would do -- it turns down the HVAC fan when it "listens" for you to talk, then turns it back up after you talk. In the BMW, if you have the A/C or defrost blowing full blast, the voice commands can't understand what you're saying, and you have to turn the fan down yourself.

Magellan makes good products, but I wouldn't buy from them again. They outsource there customer support. That would be fine, but when my GPS was broken, it was a NIGHTMARE to try and get it fixed through the foreign customer support. It's not just with magellan, but I have had that problem with Dell. I cancelled an order, it went through the customer support in a foreign country, and I was billed and received the product week later. Sorry.......I'm just ranting.
But, You are correct, BMW could use a lesson from Magellan as far as the interface.
