F31 on order
Hello,
I'm a new forum member and this is my first post. I'm very excited about what will also be my first BMW, which is due at the dealer (Rusnak BMW in Westlake Village, CA...via a broker) on 11/30! My car is: 328i xDrive SportWagon M Sport Mineral Gray Metallic Premium Package Technology Package Heated front seats Dark Burl Walnut wood trim Harman Kardon surround sound system Driver Assistance Package Park Distance Control I'll be sure to post photos as soon as it shows up. My questions are as follows, if anyone can be of assistance: - I'll be leasing the car, most likely. Worked out a decent price of $50,970 down from an MSRP of $54,850. My broker said that there may be some lease specials or incentives that I could take advantage of when the car arrives, which the dealer will honor despite our pre-arranged concept for the selling price and lease payments (about $550 a month after a cap reduction/drive off of about $5700 total). More info: The price I got has sort of been pre-negotiated, as well as the prospective lease payment, but I wonder if there still might be a bit of room to sweeten the deal. I went through a broker to secure this because I didn't want to do the whole dealer thing, and he's getting a high-end detail done for me as well as floor mats (which are allegedly not standard)...plus he'll deliver the car to me, blah blah. I've never leased a car before, so I'm not terribly savvy when it comes to the ins and outs, so I really appreciate in advance any tips I might be able to get here. But the main thing I wanted to ask on this subject is: since the dealer will honor any new updates to BMW lease programs, does anyone know if there's any programs coming up around the end of the month that I could take advantage of? - I'm trying to find an owner's manual for the car online, but BMW doesn't seem to have one...perhaps because the car is still too new? Does anybody know of a resource for this? I think that's it. Thank you for reading! |

I don't know about any deals, but $5700 down? Are you paying the entire tax upfront? You should have been able to get around that much off the MSRP without any cap reductions.

Hi Biorin,
Are you saying I could have gotten $5700 off MSRP? I'm just putting that amount down so I could get those payments down a bit, to my target of the $550-$560/mo range for a 36 mo. lease with 12k miles. |

No, the amount you got off MSRP is pretty solid. I think I misread your post... you negotiated $50k and then put down even more? $550 sounds about right after tax and interest, then. My bad! I need to get some sleep. Congrats on the new car

For reference my wife has this spec on the way:
328d xDrive Sports Wagon Sport Line Mineral Gray/Coral Anthracite Wood Premium Pkg. Driver Assistance Pkg. Navigation Heated Seats Sunshades MSRP $53,075. 36 month lease; $0 down; 7 MSD; 18k miles/year $633/mo Every $1000 down reduces monthly payment about $30. So if you had a drive off of $5700, probably $4500 of it went to cap cost reduction. So..$30 * 4.5 = $135. Therefore your payment before money down was about $680. But your car is about $1800 more...so that's worth about $50/mo. So apples to apples - the payments are about the same - but we got the extra miles free. That's basically due to the 7 MSD which I believe is only offered through BMW (though I have heard of some brokers doing it). It reduced the effective interest rate to 1.8%. This is the reason I prefer to lease through the dealer vs. a broker - BMW FS has the best leasing programs in the business and you get to take advantage of all the features without hassle. |

Thanks all of you, this is extremely helpful.
Mauicoug, I wonder if I can still re-structure my deal more in-line with what you are suggesting...all I did was put down a $500 refundable deposit and nothing was signed, just a credit app. The car is on the boat and due to arrive in about three weeks, so I would presume that I'd still have time to make some moves on my deal...don't you think? Also, here's a theoretical: if I pull out of the deal, does the car I ordered just sit in that dealer's inventory until another customer claims it? In other words, couldn't I maybe just have that car dealer traded by another salesperson and get the deal done elsewhere if my broker and his dealer can't satisfy? To me, it sounds as if my negotiated final price is fine ($4k off MSRP), but it's now all about optimizing the lease terms. |

Need a detail of what the $5700 is for to give an accurate assessment.
$50970 is invoice. There is a $750 option credit right now. Monthly would be $583 plus taxes and fees. Also i think you'll miss not having the lighting package, but maybe its not important to you.

Moxie, thank you!!
hbdunn2003, thank you as well. Here's the details of the $5700, though my broker thinks this is outdated and we'll crunch the numbers more. Before I knew about MSD's I put in all this cap reduction down payment, but that will shift as well. But here was the initial deal. Would love any tips so that when the car arrives in two weeks, I can be very specific about what's next. Capital Reduction $3,511.45 Cap Reduction Tax (9%) $388.48 License & Registration $466.00 Bank Fee $725.00 Documentation Fee $80.00 First Payment $550.00 Security Deposit $0.00 Drive Off $5,720.93 |

$550 looks about right for the numbers you posted. I would try Greg at Pacific and get a deal structured with max msd and nothing down. Also make sure you are getting the $750 option credit. This would be a way to compare the numbers you have now.
The $3500 cap reduction lowers the payment $101/month.That only nets you about $125 in savings over the term of the lease. $4200 in deposits would save you about $1600.

Thanks again, hbdunn2003. I'm glad I'm at least in the ballpark. My broker, by the way, is fully intending on using max MSD's and all that. The option credit I got on my deal was only $500, so I'll stay on top of the $750 (and whatever else might be coming in December when the car arrives)
Some follow-up questions: how did you arrive at your computation that $3500 in cap reduction (I assume you mean down payment) only lowers the payment $101 a month, and nets me savings of $125 over the lease? If I'm paying $101 less per month, wouldn't the savings be that amount x 36 months of payments? Also, when you mean $4200 in deposits, are you talking about security deposits? I'm only hearing that I have a maximum of seven of those and they are $500 each...do I have that wrong? Thanks again - really soaking up the help and grateful for this resource. |

If you give them $3511 that reduces your payment $101.
$101 x 36 = $3636 so $125 is the discount you got for prepaying $3511. In other words $3511 at signing or $3636 over 3 years. MSDs are rounded up to nearest $50 so if your payment is $553 you would need 7 $600 MSDs. With MSD you get a smaller reduction in payment than with the cap reduction but you get the deposit back at the end of the lease. Example $4200 in MSDs reduces payment $45. $45 x 36 = $1620 in savings then you get a check for $4200.

No, I completely get it, mauicoug. If I don't a good deal with max MSD's at this dealer via my broker, I suppose we would be going elsewhere. But I think the intention is to try and get what I want with them first, since that very car will be on their lot and ready to go for me. I'll check into getting another quote as well...

Ok, my car is out for delivery to the dealer today or tomorrow! I'm going to shoot for seven security deposits of $600 each, and not do a down payment/cap reduction...anything else I should ask for in my lease terms?

Perhaps with a decent price (mine is near invoice) and the security deposits strategy, I'm good, but does anyone perhaps have any last-minute tips for me? Sorry to pester. Would just love some final perspective before I go in...
