Tuned ATS vs. Tuned 335i Motor Trend

Not sure if you all have seen this, but it is a cool comparison. About 6 minutes in they discuss the mods.

I find the dyno numbers to be very low for the 335, it has the "M performance kit" on it which they say includes a tune that gives the turbo more boost. Maybe that is just how much less tunable the N55 is than the N54? I'm pretty sure with just tunes on our N54s we are getting like 330-350 hp and tq to the wheels.

The N55 is not too far away from nipping at the N54's modified heels my friend- as soon as these upgraded turbos get situated, that may very well change the game.

Well the 335i with the tune puts down 286hp and 302tq.

Seems pretty low for a tuned 335? Just my thoughts

If you have an N55 with the electric wastgate, not much you can do with it.

I'm suprised this hasn't generated more discussion...After all the ATS was made to destroy the 335i I think.

I used to drive a 2005 CTS which I did love, but I always wanted a 335i. I've sat in the ATS, and the interior just feels kinda cheap to me. I haven't driven one though.

I'm guessing the 335i had the PPK tune. Dyno numbers are all over the place and the ones from the show are probably at the wheels. I wouldn't read too much into it.

I'm so confused at this whole video, so they put a map on the ATS which just improves shifts and no HP, the BMW they tossed to a BMW dealer and said put the M package on it, this was a waste of a video and my time in my opinion.

Im so confused by this thread. It's like everyone that posts in here is not a normal user on this forum...

Our N54s make like 340 at the wheels with a tune was my understanding. This N55 is making 286. So even with the M Package tune (I agree probably PPK), it is still putting out about the same as I've seen stock N54s get at the wheels. And yes, in the video they dyno them so the power is to the wheels.

The video is a comparison of our car against a car we should probably all test drive in the future...I thought it was interesting. But yeah, the tuning part was a bit lame. But also, things any of us could do to either car fairly easily, so it is still relevant.

its a ppk tune (performance package aka OEM). Which is extremely weak. N55s put dont the same as N54 on the dyno (in stock configuration). Around 270 give or take on this particular dyno (EAS dynojet) The ppk added around 10-15 wheels horsepower as I expected. If it had a "real" tune it should put down around 320 whp - 380 whp depending on tune, gas, and mods

Really? If they turbo either the 3.0L they offer or the 3.6L (drooling....) that would be amazing.

The new 2014 CTS is also BEAUTIFUL in my opinion.

I agree that the ATS sounded really really good with the axle back exhaust.

With the 8 speed auto and a real tune and bolt ons, the 335i would have monstered the Caddy.
