xmas HH DC METRO style?

Kind of early, but early planning always pays off...

How about a HH for Christmas for this fine E90post DC Metro community?

A dinner and HH somewhere.
A Secret Santa gift exchange would be nice.
Sometime early in December since we all get busy for xmas.

post your ideas and let's make it happen!

great idea Frankster. what about doing one of the socials so that part of the cost is covered?

if those locations don't work, then maybe we can move it, but I need to know very soon. What about moving the Zodiac social (Dec 20th) to Dave and Buster's in Rockville?

also, the NCC holiday party is in Jan. Here's the link:

That would be nice!
We do need a good head count this time for the gift exchange.
We do this at the office and it's always fun.

We can set a gift price cap. Last year at the office, we set an average cost of $25 per gift.
I can set up the secret santa thing.

Also, if we are going for it, we need to secure the place and date NOW. I just realized we are 6 weeks from the beginning of December.

damn $25 won't get me a new set of rims :sad0147:

get me a plan by end of month (no later please) and I'll see about changing the location. not sure if D&B charges anything for a private room, but see if you can find out.

that sounds like a great idea.

instead of a secret santa (where someone never fails to screw it up) at work we do a gift exchange game, I forget what its called. everyone brings a gift in the price range and everyone draws numbers, 1st person picks a gift, 2nd person can pick a wrapped gift or steal the one from the first person, when your gift is taken you can either take someone elses or open a new one, you can't resteal a gift that has already been taken that round. anyway, it is a lot of fun and much simpler than a secret santa where you have to worry about noshows and people not getting gifts. just a thought....

It is actually call "Chinese Christmas Exchange" in reference to the Chinese fire drills of 'shifting positions.' This game/exchange is a lot of fun...

I usually works like this...

1) Numbers are drawn to accomodate all playing (those who brought a gift).
2) #1 pulls a wrapped gift. Opens it. Holds onto it.
3) All succeeding numbered positions have the option to open a wrapped gift, or to take a gift from a prior gift holder.
4) If a succeeding number takes YOUR gift, you get their number and can either take a gift from the wrapped gifts OR take a gift from the already opened ones.
5) A person can only have a gift taken from them twice. The thrid gift the open or take is THEIRS.
6) A low number sucks, but there is some fun strategy to it and always makes for lots and lots of laughs.

At my old office, we had 25-30 people in our finance group doing this a couple years ago. ALL the gifts sucked, except for 2 $50 Starbucks gift cards my CFO threw into the mix...those things changed hands the MAX number of times and it was hilarious to be on of the final gift openers and get to take the $50 gift card home...when I drew #27 I knew I was screwed but it ended up working to my advantage.

Good times....and a great idea Dani...

Thanks for the feedback gang.
Looks like this is a done deal to make it happen.

Of course the EEEEEEEDiot to propose it gets to organize it.
That would be... me.

With that said, let's get a feeling for a date.
do you want a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night?

My first guess is that we should do this the first week of December
since the next weeks are for shopping, traveling, work parties, family things, etc.

How about Dec 6, 7, or 8?

Those dates are fine. Might I suggest either Friday or Saturday in case the locale requires I drive 2 hours!! Not that I am complaining...
