2006 BMW 330d Auto Remap + DPF removal problems (poor mpg)

Hi all

Apologies in advance if i have posted this in the wrong area.So here goes !!!

I had my car remapped about 5 months ago and averaged around 450 miles per tank.Last month i got the dreaded dpf light come on after a 3 hour motorway journey. I took it into a BMW specialist and he said that there was a problem with glowplugs and they weren't allowing the car to regen the dpf. He quoted me around £250 to change the glowplugs and didn't sound very happy to carry out the job as the last one he had carried out one of the plugs broke off and cost hundreds more to carry out. He said the only other option is to remove the dpf. (he doesn't remove them)
I went to a local garage that removes dpf and they said it was would cost £300 to remove dpf inners and carry out dpf remap. Since carrying out this i've just averaged 300 miles per tank of fuel. The garage that removed the dpf is blaming the remap. My argument is that i averaged 450miles before dpf removal and now 300 miles after removing dpf. in theory dpf removal should improve mpg if anything.

Can you think of anything that we might be missing ?

*Both thermostats have been changed so the cars gets up to temp quick
*Car is a bit smoky after removal of dpf but i think this should expected

Any help would be greatly appreciated .Thanks to all in advance

Thanks
Hayden

Welcome here.
Did you get any faulty codes?

I guess it would be the remap, if nothing else changed (including your driving style).

I suggest you contact ECOTUNE and have it remapped, once DPF is removed you must remap the DDE, that could be the culprit some bloggers from Europe have stated increase in MPG's so your case can be the BEFORE map needs remapping

they botched the remap for sure... muppets!!!
get a reputable tuner to do the job, it might be more costly but it'll be right

Hi there and thanks to alll,

According to the garage that removed the dpf they said that dpf has been removed from the remap just by unticking ONE box ( DPF OFF). The person that carried out the initial non dpf remap said theres alot more to it than just unticking one box(back pressure sensor. temp sensors etc). Therefor the garage that removed the dpf said it wouldn't affect fuel consumption and that is all to do with the initial remap being to powerfull apparently boost pressures adjusted to max,egr opening to early etc(doesn't mean to much to me im afraid)

excuse my ignorance peurto rican but what is DDE?. and there are no fault codes at all not even on ecu just terrible fuel economy.
i have manged to get a hold of a copy of the original dpf map. does anybody know what needs to be removed of it to inhibit dpf properly is it really one tick box? or is there a lot more to it as my initial remapper says

Once again thx to all

Just take it to somewhere that knows what they're doing, your MPG will go back to normal, and your bhp/torque increase.

£300 is real low for DPF removal and remap, I was quoted £600 from a specialist so use the money you saved to get it done properly

I here you I've asked two different mappers and niether of them want to get involved. They said it sounds like a mess (which it is) this is going to be a tough cookie to swallow and probably an expensive one

Should be able to find somewhere who can sort, even if essentially you have to pay for their dpf removal service and map.

Good luck!
