Thumbs up Heads Up - Great Coupon Code for Advanced Auto Replacement Batteries

Just a heads up, as now that it's winter - seems this is the prime time that older batteries give up the ghost

Advanced Auto carries AutoCraft Gold & Silver High Quality batteries that are direct replacement for BMW battery specs of many styles/types (Regular & AGM) with 3yr warranty.

Enter Coupon Code:
  • 'TRT30' @ checkout for 30% off order - $50 max savings
    -OR-
  • 'TRT41' @ checkout to receive $40 off $100 purchase

As an example, I just got a AutoCraft Gold AGM Battery, Group Size H8, 850 CCA
Part No: H8-AGM to replace my BMW AGM battery in my 09' 328iX for $141.99

Acid Included: Yes
Battery Type: AGM
Battery Usage: Auto/Truck
BCI Group Size: H8
Cold Cranking Amps: 900
Cranking Amps: 1000
Deep Cycle/Starting: Dual Purpose
Height: 7.5
Length: 13.94
Maintenance Free: Yes
Reserve Capacity: 160
Terminal Type: SAE
Weight: 59.45
Width: 6.938

All the specs are exactly the same as my OEM battery (including size & hole for vent tube) - new battery is 92Ah - better than my original 90Ah, but close enough to not have to code...

They state they will install battery for Free (don't know if that applies to BMW trunk mount or not), but I did my own install.

> If you are replacing battery with new battery of same specs:

Just be certain to Register your new battery after install. There are (3) methods to register as a DIY - in order of ease (if you have the appropriate hardware/software):

#1 BT (BavarianTech) Cable/Software
#2 INPA style Cable + BMWLogger Software
#3 INPA style Cable + NCS Expert Software

> If you are replacing battery with new battery of different specs:

You will also need to 'code' the new battery as well as register it - here is link to coding instructions:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...4&d=1387485193

For coding you will need to use INPA Cable + NCSExpert Software, and then Register using any of the above mentioned...

Did that install in my E93 which is a true PITA and registered my batt as well. Used the exact same AGM battery and got a killer deal. Seems to me of all the parts stores Advance Auto has the best online pricing for a local to me store. I buy online bring my receipt in and pick my stuff up.

Yeah, I've had easier battery installs, and harder. If you think the BMW is a bitch - try a vette

I'm a big proponent of buying OEM parts, and using dealer service for my car - but when I heard the cost of battery install after I kept getting a continuous error code:

Scope car for codes
Test Battery
New Oem Battery
Install Battery

was gonna be $560 - I even passed on that one. I like spending $$, but not throwing it away...

i used TRT30 or something like that to get 30% off my purchase. With tax and a $18 core charge that i will get back the total was $128 for a H8 non-agm battery.

The battery was pretty annoying to install. So many damn wires everywhere and i had limited patience since i opted to do it out in the 20deg weather... i thought it was going to be a quick install like my old 3 series. My recommendation to anyone who is going to do this on their own is to pay attention to the way all the wires are routed and the various modules are oriented. It is pretty tight back there with this larger battery.

Actually, my AGM H8 battery was $181 to start - so TRT30 (30% off order - $50 max savings) would have been a better deal $50 vs $40

I didn't know that code was still in effect

I just checked and it is still active - so I added to OP...

Curious if anybody has had this battery in for 5+ yrs? I had gotten the top-of-the-line Advance Auto battery for my Nissan, and it went in 3.x years. It had an 84 mo. warranty (free replace was only 3 yrs) on which they gave me so little on a pro-rata, that I bought a Die Hard instead...since then, I've boycotted them. The Die Hard seems to have lasted longer, but when you think about it, it's pretty hard to get real world data on these batteries, we don't necessarily own cars for 20 yrs. at a time to be able to have any history...

I bought a new battery last month (pretty sure the same one that you got).
I registered it using a BT cable, but I didn't "code" it. Am I going to have problems? Should I get it coded now?

Obviously, I don't have any long history with the AA battery - but I can tell you that my OEM BMW AGM only lasted 4 yrs and they want $300+ for a new one (and that doesn't include the install charges)...

So even if the AA battery only lasts 4yrs - I still only put out half the cost of BMW

What were the specs of your original BMW battery?

Mine was:

AGM
CCA: 900
CA: 1000
Reserve Cap: 160
90Ah

If yours was the same as mine - no need to code, registration is good enough

I think you are spot-on with the coding, because 2 yrs. ago when I had the dealership install OEM, I thought $280 is not bad (of course $199 less 20% is even better if you DIY), so since the AGM is $50 more, I'd just pay $330.

Nope, they told me if you want to have us install AGM, we have to code your car, and it's an additional $130 (at the time I guess that was 1 hr. labor), so I stuck with OEM (white battery). Why I am skeptical is my original is now over 7 yrs. old and still in use in an Audi. My wife's aunt has a 2006 330i (2005 build) with its original battery, so I believe that BMW batteries are good. Not so sure about aftermarket, they sell based on these jacked-up specs and long warranties, but they don't seem to last that long....

Mine was a stock battery from 2007 335i.
I think it was 90Ah 720 CCA.
