Adjusting the RView mirror on a '11 335(?)
When cars behind me have their regular headlights on, it's fine. When they have their brights on, it's too much on my eyes. I looked at the owner's manual and it says turn the knob under the rear-view mirror to adjust the dimness. Mine does NOT turn, but the "knob" is there in the center, right under the mirror. Could it be stuck?
I called the BMW salesman and he said it does not adjust on my model!(?). Then why is it in the manual? Do pre-2011 models have this adjustment and mine does not? Then why did BMW leave that knob there? I think it's broken and the salesman didn't want to tell me. Can anyone with a 335i dim the rear-view mirror to their liking? I find this very odd that the knob is there as shown in the manual, but does not turn. Thanks guys! Harry

I have a 2011 E92 335i and just turn the knob left or right to tilt the mirror. If it doesn't turn, then yeah, it could be broken. I'm unsure how it would have been broken - probably someone tried to force it.

Thanks, that's what I figured.
I can only guess the salesperson lied to me while showing me everything in the car post-sale, and again on the phone later after I took it home. He was very familiar with the car (he breezed through every button and bell & whistle on the car), and owns a 330, so I am sure he knew. He 's been selling BMW's for 12 years. Thanks again, Harry

That's what I was told - that I have an auto-dimming mirror. I know I have a "compass" on the right of the mirror I will look for the sensor. I wonder if this sensor can be programmed or adjusted. Other cars' brights are too much, it does not seem to "auto" dimm anything. The dimmness stays the same no matter how strong the headlights are behind me.

If you have the compass, then you have the auto-dimming mirror.

Thanks guys. I guess I might have to live with this, but I will call the Dealer to see if the sensor can be adjusted better to detect brights. It does not change the dimming between regular lights and brights and that's a problem. Too much technology working against us here I think..
