why I do not drive 335 in the winter
Here is a great example why I do not drive my 335 in the winter in northeast Ohio. This state will ruin your car in one winter season. The roads look like they are snow covered but there is not a millimeter of snow, it is pure salt.

It'll take years before you show signs of cancer from salt. Water causes rust as well that's why e36 are notorious to be rusty by the trunk lid due to water not being filtered properly out it the car.

Every is entitled to their own opinions but I am here and I live in it haha. My old 325 started rusting after 2 years and that was with me staying on top of washing it after every snow and salt assault. I just cannot bring myself to ruing an expensive car during the winter, especially because I plan on keeping this car for a long time.

These cars are designed to live in cold weather areas and live in the winter.
It's a car - lives outside and will be fine. They have rust warranties.

BMW have much better rust protection I live in canada so I know a thing or two about snow. Ohio is my summer spot in the winter |

I got a kick out of it when you said Ohio is your summer spot haha. I thought we had it bad. Not sure how much snow you get in your part of Canada but a couple of years ago NE Ohio got the most snow fall out of any place in the country, it does get quite bad around these parts. |

Plus if you really want to keep the car for long time , you probably paint the car before that since it'll be pretty hard to prevent chips, scratches, paint discoloration , etc , etc ,etc in 13 years. Newer models come out and your car will probably be worth less than 7000 in 13 years, no matter how clean you keep it You guys in Ohio got the little snow compared to us , we have a major ice storms , trees fell down everywhere. I'm glad that I park underground. |

I had a similar experience with my Buick enclave. I also got denied by some older service rep to do a software update in the transmission. Then I call my regular service rep and he got it done under warranty ,without any problem. As a matter of fact he replaced the transmission under warranty before it broke down ( enclaves are known to have a component that fails 90% of the time , mine was not failing but it was jerky) I always have a good relationship with one service rep , the things they can get done under warranty are really good. If you are a dick , you are not getting anything done , or if you go to the wrong service rep good luck getting anything done too Having said that , all my friends (except one) drive their BMWs in the winter , I have only seen one with one rust spot and he got it fixed under warranty. I think BMW have excellent rust protection , very rare to see one with rust |

OP - If you ever have a problem with rust, visit Dave Walter BMW (you probably already do since you're in Akron).
As a fellow Clevelander, we use too much salt....I drive my E82 in the winter but wash each week. It will be a track car anyways sooner or later. My dad had a 02 325xi that I ended up driving until 2010, some small rust formed underneath the gas cap on the bodywork...fairly common place on the E46s. Regardless, it saw full winter duty |

Galvanizing steel for the automotive industry is a beautiful thing but has been around awhile. You have nothing to worry about.
