M3 to 335d xdrive

I am thinking of changing my E92 M3 coupe for a 335d xdrive,I know it won't have the outright power of the M3, but I am attracted by the torque of the diesel,(I had a 330d before the M3)anybody else made the same change.

I've just moved from an e92 M3 to a 330d xdrive.

90% of the time I'm glad I did for the cheaper running costs and the extra traction. Handling of the derv isn't up to the M3 obviously but its only an illegal speeds on fast a-roads that you notice the power difference.

Oh, and the sounds isn't quite as nice as a V8!

Pretty much what Steve said. Handling and power delivery are much softer and in the first couple of days I questioned the move. But overall the 335d is a great car. Especially the traction! (But we won't start that debate again!)

To me if u want m3, dont justify why u bought it. Its worth it. If y want a diesel with m3esque performance maybe 335d is the clsest. Re 335i- i wouldnt buy it, cause its not m3 but lles power/ looks eyc, no to metion not as mucg milg as 335d.
So in my opinion either m3 if u r nt bothered re fuel costs or 335d.
Dobt bother comparing torque, etc tbh the ny rason we dont buy m3 is coz of running costs.

Two VERY different cars in my eyes. Give a 335d a test drive, I recon there should be a few more about in the new year....

Great choice

If you have to have a diesel 3 series, you may as well get the best one

Did you test drive first?

To the OP: I know you mentioned the torque of the diesel but can I ask why you want to go from an M3 to a diesel? It is a very different drive, and I suspect that although the speedo will tell you it's going quick your bum dyno, ears and gut not so much.

Out of interest, you do realise the F30 335i with the N55 engine has the same torque as the E92 M3? The difference is (obviously) it's turbo vs N/A (although it doesn't drive like a turbo) and doesn't rev quite as mad as the M3 and so is only 304ish bhp out of the box. It is however nearly 300kg lighter! And it will return 35-40mpg if you drive reasonably... Did you try one?

I had an E90 330d before the M3 and loved the power deliveryI have had the M3 for three years and feel I have got it out of my system now,I am 55 years old and am fed up with corsas and peugeots etc playing at Sebastian vettel at traffic lights so I think the 335 will be a bit more understated .

What's 300kg lighter? surely that must be a typo.

M3 is around 1600kg IIRC

1800kg sounds right for the convertible though
