My new e90 335i T Boned!!

So I bought my 08 335i back in October. I needed a new DD and wanted a 335i. I traded in my 07 G35s at a dealer in ATL.

I loved this car. I bought a Sirius unit on eBay, installed it and had it coded. Fresh oil change, alignment, etc. Changed the plugs and swapped the panel filter with a K&N and put in a new cabin filter.

I bought a Cobb AP and had it flashed the Aggressive stage 1 map. What a car…just friggin' mint! I love it!

So today I am driving home from the office and some dildo, old guy runs a red-light doing about 35…hits me dead on the Driver door/front panel. I couldn't get out of the way. The center airbag and all 4 side curtain bags go off. It was like a shotgun blew up in the car. I had never had an airbag go off. It smelled like the car was on fire. I was panic-stricken and kicked the door open like Superman. I didn't want to be trapped in a burning car.

The guy (old man) who hit me never asked me if I was OK and didn't say sorry for running the red light and smashing my beautiful car. I am just livid.

I can tell you first hand that BMW makes a safe car…like a tank. Also, BMW Assistance called and asked me my name and if I needed them to call the police and fire. She even told me she hoped my day improved. Solid! I noticed the engine shut down, the hazards turned on and I could not get into the trunk. I suspect the electrical system must be partially shutdown.

I am not sure but it may be totaled. The control arm must be destroyed and I suspect the frame damage will be ugly. If it is, I will fight for the $$$ I already put in it. Not to mention the Cobb may not be able to be unmarried which would suck. I have an e46 M3 I will use instead of a rental but am go gin to try to work some deal for per diem on that.

I am OK feeling right now…will see over the next few days. Probably will visit a Dr. just in case. Here are some pics.

Cliff notes: Old man T boned my new car. It was immaculate, It may be totaled. I think I'm OK…I'm pissed.

damn, that truly sucks bro. I'm happy to hear you "think" you're ok.

my personal feeling is to always hope its totaled. kinda seems like the car has betrayed my trust or something and i just want to move on to something else.

Yeah thanks…Dr. is in the future for me, no doubt. It kills me. I loved that car.

Agree on hoping it's totaled, I would feel the car would never be truly the same after an accident like that. Good to hear that BMWs are so strong, keep us updated on what happens with the car and doctor visit

It probably is totalled anyway. Side impact have a strong chance of bending the frame. It is a kinda old car so...

Airbags are to the tune of 3k each (front) not sure about side curtains. I can't see it not being a complete write off. Car can be replaced, life and limb can't - glad you're ok.

Hope you're alright and sorry about the 335i! The car will likely be totaled looking at that damage. You're better off, most of the time, if it is - get into something that will be right. Good idea on seeing the doctor - pain can come out days later. Take it easy and rest. More important that you're OK than the car.

General rule of thumb is that if the airbags go off in an accident, the car is totaled. If it wasn't totaled, I would NOT feel safe driving it. From the looks of it, there is a lot of structural damage and that's not accounting for the "hidden" ones.
Glad you're ok and good luck.

a 2010 Honda Minivan. He blew through the light full tilt, not trying to catch the yellow. I had full green. It's the way I go home everyday..the light is green 90% of the time so I'm not really used to looking to see if anyone is coming.

It's a bad deal.

As long as you're OK..there are plenty of cars to get after this one..still not good that it happened.
I'd say that thing is totaled for sure.

Sorry to hear about the loss. You know where to find me if you need anything.

Maybe the E46 was getting jealous...

you have got to be kidding me right???

Maybe it's just me coming from the world of E36s and my 94 Supra but a 335i is NOT a old car. Good lord, that comment...

old in terms of residual value. It's probably in the 15k range, the airbags alone are worth a good half of that. I have an 06, don't take it all personal
