Car stolen, need advice
So over the winter im storing my car in my friends extra garage. He is a very good friend and fully trust him.
His house is only 15 min away from mine and i just got a new car cover i wanted to put on so i was going to stop over there. I called him and he was up north but he had given me the garage code for me to go in. I get there in my truck. Type in the code. Door open. MY CAR IS GONE. I am absolutely fuming at this point. Call the kid whos house it is. To see if he has any idea who would do this. He has idea. I hang up and call the cops and wait in the driveway. 30 min later my car pulls up behind my truck and these two kids get out. I wanted to kill them. 5 seconds later a cop shows up and gets the story. It was one of the kids friends whos house it was. Went into his house, went through all his stuff and found my hidden keys and took my car. They both admit to the cop that they took my car but the cop is doesnt arrest them right there??? I couldnt believe this. Why wouldnt these two scum bags go straight to jail? So now my Montego Blue car is Pearl White with how much salt is on it with an extra couple hundred miles racked up on it. Im going straight to the station after work but im still so pissed. What should I do?? And what do I do about washing all the salt off now. The rest of the week is close to 0 degrees and if i go to a car wash i have to drive it home on the salty roads again?? |

I would have hit them with the good old Knuckle Blasters. No way in hell I'd restrain myself. I'm suprised you didn't hurt them.

wow at least there is no damage. to be honest that would change the relationship between me and my friend. i couldnt be able to trust him with or around my stuff anymore. You might just be better off keeping it close to your house with a tarp over it if thats an option.

Wow.... I honestly do not know how I would have kept my cool.
Did you file a police report with the officer? What's the follow up?

Ya. Police came. I pressed charges and everything.
I have no idea how i stayed somewhat calm. The i knew the police had to have been right around the corner when Saw my car pull up. Not to sound crazy but I have my concealed license and i dont know how i woulda handled it had I had my gun with me. I cannot believe i million years these two kids didnt go straight into the back of the cop car. I thought i was in the freakin twighlight zone. Im moving my car today to my own garage. Its just a little tight in there but ill have to make do. I dont blame the kid at all whos house it is but he is definetly to trusting of people. And it bites him (and me now). In the ass |

Don't worry about the salt. It won't do anything. Go to the car wash and wash it off. These cars aren't 1976 Pintos.

I would've made it work so that it's on my own property even if it was "tight".
To each his own. |

Have you considered a Storage Facility if you REALLY dont have space? At least they're monitored. Some places even have camera feeds you can log into for a bit more ..

Similar situation when I was in.........college. My car which was a Toyota was stored in a garage. Neighbor/friends were actually breaking into it to get the stereo etc. My former roommate called me to tell me it was taking place. Show up there, cops arrive, and cop strongly urges me to let it go. Sounds like this is the same situation. The people in the OP's story had the keys and drove the car, they did not steal it. So it gets into a he said/ she said and the cops deal with criminal matters, not civil.

This is all fine and dandy, but when was the last time you actually got into a no holds barred fist fight? For me it was 2007 on the NYC subway. It isn't as easy as one thinks, and you end up with a big hassle, and it's not as cool as it sounds. Take for example the guy who at that Winter Classic beat up a Rangers fan. He got off, sure, but is under house arrest. Who needs that over a car.
