Adaptive Suspension question

I'm going to be buying the M235i shortly, and the first mod has to be a drop. That wheel well gap is ridiculous. I was just wondering how a drop would affect the adaptive suspension. If it's dropped on springs, can you still use the comfort, sport, sport + settings, as I believe those only change the dampers. And would I still be able to use the adaptive if I chose coilovers instead? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm just not that car savvy.

Check the Suspension | Chassis | Brakes thread in the F30Post. On the F30, they have the Adaptive suspension as well, and if its the same, I believe you can only change the Springs.

Nearly all of them have it as an option now, with the exception of the X1, and possibly x3.

Here's a post I wrote a while ago that gives some info on how these systems work.

That was a really informative thread. I think I have the answers I was looking for. From what I understand now is you can lower on springs, and still have the adaptability. However if you go to a coilover system you will lose it. Correct me if I'm wrong. But thanks for all the replies and info, much appreciated.

CORRECT,although there are some coilover kits for the m3 etc that keep the adjustable aspect i do not think any of these will come out for the m235i.

Thank you, but as I feared, BMW's efforts are not quite that of GM's.

Are you talking about the car or the suspension? The car comes with the adaptive suspension, it's either that, or you fork out the extra money for the M performance suspension. I'm trying to keep the purchase price relatively low. Fortunately for me, I'm overseas and can get the military price. I disagree 100% with the car being a waste of money. There are tons of standard features, and the performance is very good from the N55 as noted in previous cars. So I don't really understand where you were going with that statement.

Notice how Germany has all the cars & option lists we want, but somehow BMW always makes it impossible for us Americans to enjoy the same optioned cars.

BMW has been doing this forever.

What do you mean? BMW's system has fundamentally the same capabilities as Magneride, it just uses a different mechanism to achieve that functionality. There are pros and cons to both types of systems.

GM's Magneride is more sophisticated and on their cars right now. GM is on the third gen of Mag ride?

BMW's attempts are fledgling and on very few cars. I can see BMW going full-force with it's "adaptive suspension" in the next few years, but I highly doubt currently, it's near the level of what is on Caddies & Vettes.

M235i

In the UK the adaptive suspension shows up as a £515 option. Thought I read somewhere it was included in the M235i as standard.
Anyone clarify?
