Porsche Tours

From time to time many forum members have contacted me for helpful tips on where to “tour” while on ED over here. There is really no wrong or right answer. Just go where you feel like seeing. But even then there are so many places off the beaten path that might spark (desire of) your car lover’s heart. I came across Porsche’s website many years ago and it makes for a good “research tool” on where to drive while on ED. I think this thread might come in handy for anyone planning an ED trip!

For more info look at the German Porsche website:

http://www.porsche.com/germany/sport...velclub/tours/

Sorry this website is only in German. But you can click on a tour region from the left hand list… and see the various Porsche tours they offer. When you look at the car/trip packages… they include rental of a new Porsche, hotels and dinner(in most cases). It really isn’t that bad of a deal. Just some food for thought.

Here are some of Porsche’s recommended tours…

Munich Southern route… Bayern, Schwarzwald, Heidelberg

Porsche webpage...
http://www.porsche.com/germany/sport...utherngermany/

Alpine Passes... old Alpine roads SuedTirol & Dolomiten...

Porsche webpage...
http://www.porsche.com/germany/sport...-dolomitealps/

Alpine Tour... Ludwigsburg, Ulm, Garmisch, St. Moritz, Buesingen

Porsche webpage...
http://www.porsche.com/germany/sport...ouralpinetour/

Tour Burgund route... Schwaben tour…

Porsche webpage...
http://www.porsche.com/germany/sport.../tourburgundy/

Porsche 25 year anniversary… Stuttgart, Munich, Kitzbuehel, Kruen...

Porsche webpage...
http://www.porsche.com/germany/sport...scheexclusive/

Some of the Porsche trips/tours have been deleted… but here are some I have saved!
Nurburgring…

Blackforest: Heidelberg, Rothenburg, Munich, Lindau, Baden-Baden.

French Villages: Ludwigsburg(Stuttgart), Colmar, Baerenthal

Lake Konstance – BodenSee…

Southern mountain lake area…

Burgundy wine area…

Castle Tour…

Black Forrest Tour…

Bavarian Tour…

And IF anyone wants to contact Porsche for one of these tours here is their contact info:

guys - do yourself a favour and

- check also motorbike-books for "best alp-tours"
- take 2-3 weeks time
- drive all high passes over 2000m in the austrian, swiss and french alps
- do not go in school-holiday season

Best is may / june or september. drive during the week, stay in wellnesshotel on weekend.

have fun ,-)

Months to avoid for Euro Deliver?

Hey Guys,

New to the forum and considering Euro Delivery for new M3. Are there any particular months to avoid doing ED? I would hate to get there and have to fight crappy weather or bad driving conditions. Thanks!

Do it before the middle or end of October. By November its a crap shoot with early snow fall. I'd say any time from May to Sept is ideal.

Hey dack, I'm hoping to try the Furka Pass in mid october - I've read that it'll still be open (although I'm already planning to "play it by ear"). Any advice? Think it'll be closed or I'm out of luck on that? Ideally I don't want to get snow tires as I plan to drive through the alps and then down to the coast.

thanks!

The problem is once it snows, the pass will be closed until Spring. So its a crap shoot after September. Best thing would be to check their website before you head out there. It will all depend on mother nature.

Furka and Gimsel Passes are my favs.

Gotcha, do you think there's a high probability route munich to milan for mid oct? Looks like it's pretty dry then except andermatt... Im thinking munich to zurich, overnight, if weather's good the furka pass to andermatt and then lugano. If its bad or closed then ill head straight from Zurich to andermatt and take the tunnel south (e35) or take the longer e43 route.

Thoughts? Thanks!!

Like I said above, it all really depends on the weather. Sometimes it snows early and sometimes late in the year. I do know that a lot of these mountain passes JUST opened a few weeks ago in mid June! So that ought to tell you - how much snow falls up there! It can be 28'C at the bottom of these Passes and single digits(~8'C) at the top! So bring a jacket and some eye and sun protection.

Also... be advised that on the Furka and Gimsel Pass the Swiss Polizei sit in wait early in the morning to afternoon, untill they get their ticket "quota".
In Swiss... the speed limit on back roads(non Autobahn) is only 80 kph. IF you get caught speeding more than 40 kph over the limit( 120 kph or more) the Swiss cops WILL take your car!!! Take as you never get it back! So don't go crazy with the speed.

Although I really like driving these Swiss Passes... I prefer to stay over night in Austria or Italy. Switzerland is just too expensive. 5 euros for s 500ml Coke and the meals are like four to five times of the meals in Germany(~20 euros or less) or Italy is cheap too. Spending 50 euros for schnitzle or a pizza is not unheard of in Switzerland.

IF I were you... maybe pop over to Pfunds, Austria to stay for a night. I really like the Post Hotel in Pfunds or the Hotel Sonne. Both are very reasonable ~60 euros with dinner/breakfast. Plus the fuel is much cheaper in Austria bc they have less tax there. Then go drive the Stelvio Pass or the Fluela Pass near Davos.

You could drive down to Merano and then over the Brenner A22 Autostrada to the Sella Pass area. That is where we(Euro 1Addicts) will be driving next month) for our yearly Alpine Tour.

Did you ever see my writeup/tour of this area last year? I went last August, first week or so. The weather was chilly, but nice. No snow.

I would also recommend you to go to Lake Como. I really would not bother visiting Swiss, but I understand its on a lot of people's bucket lists. I really prefer Southern Germany/Austria/Italy much more than the land of Swiss.

I will be in munich taking delivery on my 16 m3 on 9/2 to 9/5. This is the route and places I was thinking of taking.

Stelvio pass to pordoi pass to campolongo pass to gardena pass and then sella pass. The routes are 20-25 mins apart and its a very nice roads and views. I believe the passes are about 4.5 to 5 hrs away from munich germany. Im also thinking of going to lake como which i heard is amazing. Its about 2.5hrs away from stelvio pass. Also want to do the bmw factory tour also. I have 1 month to plan my trip. I have 1 week to cram and do all the things I want to do. Its my first time in Europe!
