I value the additional options more than the I6 so the 428 is the better choice for me.

If you can't get an M sport 435i with Harman Kardon then go down on engine size.

Do you like handling, looks and fuel economy at the expense of power, or power at the expense of handling, looks and fuel economy?

Good question. In the new C&D, they tested a 428i and they did 0-60 in 5.3 seconds. That's pretty quick and more than enough for most people. I'm just not sure I'm most people. Has there been a confirmed PPK for the 428i?

It seems your budget is under 50k as MSRP for the vehicle. I would definitely opt for a 428i which is well equipped. 4 cylinder 2.0 Turbo engines cannot be underestimated. Also, the 428i has a variable geometry turbo (VGT) from what I understand.

It was mentioned months ago when all the M performance parts made the news, but that's it. The PPK for the 335/435 just became available again for retrofit at BMW centers; it's not even available for port install yet. I wouldn't hold your breathe on a 428 PPK.

I'd go for the 428 set-up. As good as the N55 is, the N20 ain't too far off.

I pay $552/month plus tax on my $75k MSRP E93 M3. I just can't justify paying the same amount on a 435i. It's all mental.

My preference would be for the 428.

Going to a 428 from an M3 will be a significant step down and be ready for that. The 435 will soften the blow a bit though.

My Camry usually takes care of that.

It obviously depends on what your priorities are. I had a similar choice and went with a decently-optioned 428 (Sportline/Premium/Tech/HK/Heated Seats), coming from a 335 E92, since:

1) I have a short commute (10mi roundtrip), I would never get to open up the N55 (I don't get to now anyway) - the 428 felt more than quick enough for me. (though there's no denying the power and awe-inspiring sound of the 435!)
2) I like the tech toys and options - I won't deny it... I value these options more than the 2x/day on-ramp into traffic grin I would get from the 435.

If you're in a M3 now though, you probably fall into the performance "enthusiast" category though - perhaps you don't want to feel for however long you have your F32 that you compromised?

Agreed. Butremember, all your touch points (other than throttle) will be better in the M Sport than in the 335i sport (steering wheel, shifter, bolstered seats). Also, the M Sport is going to exhibit less body roll. All of those things contribute to the feel and enjoyment of the car.

Doesn't the "sportline" have the same seats and suspension as the "msport" 4?

I think you might want to try REALLY, REALLY hard to get over that, because I have a strong feeling you'll find yourself dissatisfied with a 428 coming from an ///M3. Seems a pretty big risk to take on a pretty expensive purchase just to save a few "arbitrarily" determined dollars.

Past is the past. You obviously got a great deal on the m3. Make the best decision for you and what you can afford based on the current market.

As someone who has a 435 without Navi or tech package.
I do not care about the navi or the "larger display" below the tach.

The only think I miss is streaming bluetooth audio, the more expansive iDrive and no voice command. (even my 07 335i E92 let me voice activate the phone dial with a push of button)

Buy out your M3!! Sounds like your residual might be really high with such low payments though...

Currently own the 435 but have been in a 328 for quite a bit of time as I'm getting the some work done on the 435. I must say, the N20 is plenty quick, especially for daily use. I think that having less power than then N55 isn't really a bad thing for the N20. It just means that you'll be using more of the rev range more of the time. This, in my opinion, makes the drive more sporty.

I also have the E92 M3. This didn't cause me any problem with "getting used to" the 328. The mental adjustment is automatic as you will not sit in the driver seat of a 428 and expect it to behave like an M car. The 428 is a very well-rounded car and I'm sure you will enjoy it very much.

I initially got the 435 because of a irrational fear for a lack of power. Having spent real time in a 328 showed me that a smaller power plant doesn't always take away from the driving experience. While I do not regret going for the 435, I really think that the 428 deserves much more consideration than I've given it initially.

PS: the M sport exterior looks better than the sports line IMO.
