JBL GTi 15"

I have a AE ABP-15 that I love, but it's not a woofer that pounds hard. It can get deep and is super clean though.

Not sure you can squeeze a 15 in the e93.

IDMax 12
JBL GTI MKII 12
JL 12W7
JL 12W6

If I had to choose one...IDMax.

IMO a Fi Q would outperform an IDMax. It would be interesting to see how they compare in winisd both in infinite baffle and sealed.

A good rule of thumb for IB is to go with an amp that can provide at least 50% of the sub's max rated RMS power rating. That's because when the sub is not in an enclosure the cone will move more freely and it requires less power to achieve the same output compared to a closed or vented enclosure.

Like kaigoss said you don't need 1500 watts rms for infinite baffle. Those are the ratings for the sub in a sealed or ported box. I would look for an amp around 600-700 watts rms.

I used to have a fully loaded 15" Fi BTL N2 with a PSI recone. That sub would take over 2500 watts rms all day.

Curious why people are recommending the FiQ over Fi's IB312 which is meant for IB and why not the acoustic elegance IB12 isn't being recommended, Kai I know you have the 15, do you not like it? I've heard it can be hit or miss getting a sub from AE in the quoted time frame and can even take months..which scares me away

I'm planning on ditching my JL 10W7 that is in a sealed enclosure firing thru ski-pass and trying the IB setup. So I'm very interested too. I need the trunk space and my 10w7 sounds muddy only giving it 500W off my alpine pdx-v9 which I don't feel like switching out for something bigger...

The AE is a very tame sounding subwoofer. It is a great sub, very transparent and efficient, but not enough kick you in the ass kind of response when called for. It is not "brutal" enough for me, if that makes sense. Perhaps a single AE is not capable of doing that, and I would need a pair which is not going to happen. From everything I've read, what I really want is either the JBL or the IDMax, or perhaps even a JL W7.

Applying that same sort of logic for the e93, where you can only fit a single 12, I think the AE would not perform well. Also excursion (not just xmax but xmech) becomes important because the sub has to move a lot more than a 15 to achieve good output.

I'm between the JBL and the IDMax, the JBL can be had for a great price but has an ugly behind, while the IDMax is sexy but carries a larger price tag. Not sure what I'm gonna do just yet...

OK that makes a lot of sense, I forgot too that OP mentioned he wanted something that hit hard. I wonder if the FI IB312 would be in this category as its pretty cheap at around $200 bucks.
Well I'm pretty much looking for the same thing, definitely something with some punch. I don't want to swap amps, will 500w push the JBL or IDMax tho? Maybe IDQ would be good as well. OP did you ever make a decision?

I would love to hear the results of this project. Could the e93 backseat be sealed properly for IB setup? I would like to try it one day.

Because the Fi Q has a lower vas than the IB3. In a larger space the Ib3 would be ideal.

Ideal if you like an enclosure Q of 0.7. I like it a bit lower than that. I agree that the FiQ would probably work great.

I think your 10w7 might work as well! What does the birth sheet say on your PDX? Let me model those bad boys again, I'll post the results shortly.
