Questions for all audiophiles

To maximize B&O sound system potential...
Are CDs considered a high quality format?
Are CDs equal to lossless MP3s in quality?
Where can you download lossless MP3s? Is it an option from iTunes?
Are there any streaming high quality sources available?
What's the best known format?
I want to best prepare myself to be blown away by this system.
Thanks!

Garage List
I use lossless MP3s and MOG downloads at 320kbps.

That is CD quality IMO.

Actually cd quality is much much higher than a 320kb/s MP3 , over 4 times as much information is lost when converting to high quality mp3 . The better the audio system the more noticeable the lost info is . Ripping a cd to apple lossless is much better , it's 60% of the original file size bc it gets compressed but no data is lost . The only advantage to mp3 is the small file size . An apple lossless file plays at over 1200kb/s . The difference is quite noticeable on the B&O , it's just people have become used to shit quality . Listen to your your iPod or MOG , then listen to the B&O demo cd that came with our cars . If you can't tell the dynamic range is much much brighter and broader then you are deaf lol .

B&O definitely exposes lower bitrate music files.

In many cases there is really no way around having a portion of your music collection below CD quality. BUT, at least find out if some of your "all time favorite" albums have been remastered in the past few years and buy them again for longterm enjoyment. If you've been dragging around an increasingly enormous music collection for the past 15 years like me, then you'll find lots of remasters to upgrade these staples.

I think the only other option is to a) rip a lot of your CDs into higher bitrate/lower compression formats (if you even still own the original CD's anymore),b) buy music from newer artists, or c) go with the MOG downloads that Stealth mentioned above.

Again, B&O will expose highly compressed music. You may obsess over it for a while like I did. I also put my very best quality music on the "music collection" internal drive and everything else is on my iPod in the console.

Good luck, and enjoy hearing music in a way that you may never have experienced before !

Should have come with your car. It's a collection of music of various genres - classical, jazz, etc which does a nice job of showing the capability and range of the system.

And in the CD case is a coupon for a free set of B&O headphones which are quite nice.

Cd's will always be better than compressed, but if you really want high quality sound, we are lucky in the M5 to have that DVD Changer in the glovebox that will play DVD audio discs, which have amazing sound !! You will not get the 5.1 sound they have, but even without, you will be truly amazed. They can be found on Amazon, not cheap, most are used, but if you have a few Fav's they are worth the cost.

Lossless would be the best. The dvd player reads. Wav and WMA. U can do WMA in lossless at 2 channel or 5.1
