If I trade...

My 2011 e92 has 8,400 miles on it. How would a dealer look at this car as collateral for the new m3/m4?

Seriously? Why not ask the dealer or go to KBB.com for an estimate? No one here can predict what the dealer will offer you, but you can assume it will be less than if you sell it yourself.

My question wasn't to get a monetary value it was to hear other people's experiences.

In my experience trade in value is almost 20% less than reasonable private party value.

You basically have a brand new M3. Start driving it and enjoy it.

Why get a new one when you never used the one you had?

I would suggest going out and buying some lube.

Dealers tend to buy at slightly below auction value. Current auction values on an '11 is low $40's. If you want another good indicator, go to Autotrader Trade In Marketplace. You'll have your shocking value in minutes and you can walk you car into a local dealer and get a check if you can live with the value.

Alternatively, selling private party will likely net you more money but finding either all cash buyers or those with financing in place not always easy. Lots of dreamers and tire kickers.

You could always use Fleabay! I'm sure you could get $50k on there for it.

Great suggestions. I love my car but, it's my second car. I do drive it actually. It's not a commuter or long trip car. I'm considering the new Ms for the technology and new design.

Here's the way it usually works - the dealer will offer you less for your trade than you think it's worth and then price the new car for more than you think it's worth. Good luck.

spot on. have to at least try not to get raped on one end of the deal or the other. i usually go in with a differential amount between the two i want to meet and they can mess with either price as much as they want as long as it come down to my number.

I get what you are saying, but if you don't drive them while you have them, then what is the point. Good luck, whatever your decision.

Don't listen to these guys, I have your solution for you. Listen carefully. Go to the dealer and let them tell you how much they are willing to give you for that car. Come back to the forum and PM me the dealers offer and I will give you 1K more than what the dealer offered and take that outdated junk off your hands. All in cash. Then you can go enjoy that extra 1K you scored and go buy yourself a BRAND NEW M3/4! What do you think?

Depending on where you live, a 40k offer trade in is worth $42,400 in Florida due to sales tax. So if best you can do is 43k private, then trading in some states isn't as bad.

Buy a supercharger and enjoy the amazing, high revving, best sounding v8 ever and spank the new turbo m3. That's what I'm doing...
