Squeaky Brakes? Apparently there's a bulletin for that.

I couldn't take the squeaky brakes anymore so I took my F30 in to get them looked at. According to the CA, BMW just released a bulletin on the F30 (maybe any F* model) regarding the squeaky brakes. Apparently it involves caliper paint overspray, lack of lubricant and maybe even some metal on metal action.

The parts to replace my brakes are on order, direct from Germany. If your brakes are squeaking too, it might be a good time to call your local BMW dealer.

That's good to know. Mine squeal like mad on cold mornings. It's very embarrassing! I just emailed my CA and will probably take the car in on Friday. Thanks.

You might want to wait until the parts come in. I was told 7-10 business days.

Yeah do you have any docs or anything on this? I just picked up my car from the dealer specifically for squeaky brakes and he said "its normal" and just cleaned upt he rotors and brake pads. Didn't fix it of course

same here. cleaned the rotors/pads and added brake paste. seems like a temp fix for now but i'm sure in a week's worth of time they'll be back at it again.

I'll ask my CA if he'll share the TSB number when I pick up my BMW this evening.

I'd guess that should help your SA find the information they need. I've only had service once so I'm relatively new to the whole BMW repair arena.

Good to know. Right now they only do it occasionally, but if it gets worse I'll take it in.

Interesting. I just talked to the Service Advisor at BMW of Alexandria in Virginia. He told me that the bulletin only applies to the 335 and not the 328 and that brake squeal when it is cold is normal. Hmm, a) I though both models share the same chassis to include braking components; and b) when did squealing brakes in a $50k+ car become "normal"??? I'm bringing the car in and if they don't fix it, I'll bring it back in, and again, and again. I have noticed a disturbing trend of dealerships writing things off as "normal". "Common" maybe, but certainly not "normal".

does this apply to the M Sport optional Brakes (blue ones)? Mine haven't squeak badly yet but the last couple of days I heard a few low squeaks when coming to a complete stop... I'm worried it might get worse as I'm still at 1250 miles.

I have been back and forth to the dealer 4 times with the brake squeal. It's much worse in the cold weather but there is no excuse for this much noise on a new BMW. Hopefully this Bulletin will finally address this.

salt and the frequent washing during the cold weather probably doesn't help...but it shoudl apply to all body styles, odd that they single out the 335i.

OK, I have some information on this bulletin. See http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=942105 for background.

I took it in this morning and told them about the SB. Advisor just called me back and said he looked up the SB and it does apply to my car for brake squeal. He said it is caused by the paint on the side of the brake pad getting on the rotor and causing vibration which then leads to the noise. The SB calls for chamfering the edge of the pad (presumably to remove the paint) and replacing the brake carrier (??) and perhaps another part (the advisor didn't know too much). Bottom line is they are actually doing something about it. (when I dropped it off this morning got the 'its supposed to do that line').

Thanks all for the SB. Internets sure are useful.

I just got the call that my brake replacement parts are in. I'll be taking my BMW in tomorrow morning. It is supposed to be cold all week here in CO so I'll report back on the success/fail of the service.
