2015 C63 to Debut in Paris; Engine Output between 450-600 Horsepower; 110 lbs Lighter

http://www.autoweek.com/article/2014...NEWS/140209983

"Further details remain scarce, but AMG insiders suggest the M117 may support an output between 450 and 600 hp. Since the outgoing C63 AMG's naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 is already good for 451 hp, its replacement is expected to up the ante to somewhere in the region of 480 hp. Forced induction, present in the C-class based performance sedan for the very first time, should also help extend its torque reserves beyond the 443 lb-ft of its predecessor."

Other interesting highlights:

"The adoption of a new aluminum-intensive platform structure and an predominately aluminum body shell ensures the increase in size will not have a big effect on curb weight, with Mercedes-Benz claiming savings in the region of 110 pounds, compared to the steel-bodied third-generation model."

"The new C63 AMG eschews the air suspension that is being made available as an option on various new C-class models for the first time, receiving a heavily reworked version of its more conventional steel-sprung arrangement with unique track widths, firmer springs and dampers, altered elastokinematics and a lowered ride height."

"We got a preview of the look on standard versions of the C-class fitted with the optional AMG optic package. But the C63 AMG will go further, featuring a heavily structured front fascia with sizeable air ducts to provide more efficient engine bay cooling, AMG's latest blade grille treatment, reworked hood, heavily flared front fenders, wider sills and a deeper rear bumper that houses trapezoidal chromed tailpipes."

The Paris Motor Show reveal is in September.

Looking forward to this car 450-600hp is a pretty broad guess, they need to find some new insiders

480 was mentioned as likely. 493 horsepower as standard has been thrown around quite a bit as well.

With the outgoing W204 C63 507 Edition having 507 horsepower, I believe that the 493 figure as standard is very plausible for the next generation.

This is true.

And 110 lbs lighter?

And with an even more dialed-in suspension than the LCI (2012+) C63?

As Chris Harris said, the next C63 could be a total "weapon."

Only the front fenders will be flared? No flared rear fenders?

The rear fenders on my W204 C63 are flared but the front flares are definitely more dramatic, as evidenced by this photo:

That would be nice. But if the 110 lbs worth of weight savings bit is true, 480 hp as standard should be more than enough, seeing as the standard W204 C63 hits 60 in 3.7 seconds.

AFAIK only the fronts are flared on the C63, the rears are same as any other C Class. AMG did offer those tiny rear guards for the euro spec models though. Anyhow, new C63 will be insane!!

the front only flares are disappointing to me. I love the front of the c63, but the rear looks weird since its basically the same as a regular c class. just looks oddly proportioned. the black series with those big DTM flares is drool-worthy

color me unimpressed with the weight loss. the handling advantage will be more significant than the e9x vs the LCI c63 imo. The bimmer has lost more weight, has much more handling tech (from what we know right now).

110 lbs is not enough. that means that the c63 will still weigh over 3700 lbs. too heavy.

The rear fenders are flared as well. I know because that was my car in the photo demonstrating the front flares. But like I said, they're substantially less dramatic than the front flares.

I have access to a standard W204 C-Class with "sport" bodywork. I could do a photo comparison of the rear fenders on each?

That said, I do wish the rear flares were even more pronounced. The front and rear flares on the F80 M3 look outstanding!

Yeah the F80 M3's claimed weight loss is what has me so intrigued about it. That and the healthy power bump it received.

At this point, I'm so impressed with what I've heard from BMW M about the F80 that is at the top of my list.

I would like to see some independent weight measurements though once the journalists get their hands on them. Manufacturers can be very sneaky when posting dry curb weights.

Although the W205 will still be a heavier car than the F80, the extra power and torque will help to negate the weight penalty. The heavily revamped suspension on the LCI C63 played a major role in facilitating that car's ability to turn in a faster lap (4-5 seconds faster) on the 'ring than the E90. Plus, like you said, we don't yet know for certain how aggressive the suspension setup on the W205 is going to be. It might have a wider track, wider tires (instead of the insanely small 255-section standard rears on the W204), etc.

There are indications that the W205 will have the electronic diff. from the SLS and revised mapping for the MCT.

It has always been a tall task to compete with the M3. Honestly, prior to the W204 C63's arrival, there wasn't a C-Class AMG that deserved to be mentioned in the same breath as the M3. Things got very interesting once the LCI W204 debuted. That narrowed the gap quite a bit further.

Also, the rear flares might not be very prominent but the rear bumper on the LCI W204 C63 is definitely wider/more sculpted than the rear on something like a C350. The rear diffuser is much more aggressive as well.

They are definitely flared, he was just saying that the rear flares are only wide as other non AMG C-Classes.

Wow, the first time I've seen the rear of the M4 and noticed the arches. I'm coming from a 1M conversion and need a widebody and didn't think the m4 had it!
