Does anyone know about the recall??

Hi everyone I have an E92 335i. Today i was in the service for fixing the auto sundshade. My SA said there was also a recall for the smog, for the recall i searched before and someone on this forum said something about tunning down 335i. so i ask my SA about it, and he said:"well ya that's how it goes for the car in CA." So anyone know if this is ture? recall is for tunning down 335i?

I am in NY. I had my car in yesterday for the 1 year service and they did the recall as well. The letter I got was that they were going to reprogram the car with the latest software. They claim that the version in my car would prevent the system from notifing me of certain types of emissions failures.(Bad O2 sensor etc). Car has just as much power as before. They actually did a reprogram as my radio channnels were gone.
PS- The dealer version of the service bulletin for this recall tells them to fill your car to the top with fuel as a courtesy for your inconvienence. Ask them about it when you bring your car in.

California is always a different set of rules but the recall did not noticeably affect performance in my case.

Interesting, the only recall my dealer told me about on my car was for the TPMS sensors needing a reprogram.

I had my 335i sedan in for the idrive update and they completed this as well, the car has not lost any power. I had the JB1 in place as well and it was not even noticed, a pure pass-through for programming the units was a nice *feature*. :-)

Why would you leave the JB1 in place? I don't mean it as a criticism, but what happens if they see it.. no warranty right?

Depends on the build date. I do not remember what the date is.

I believe they use an interior port, and don't even have to open the hood.

I got lucky, I had no idea they were going to update every piece of software the car uses. I just went in for the 6FL iPod issue for iDrive. I will yank any trace of it in the future but I don't plan to visit the dealership until next year sometime.

I was having the iPod issue where it would switch to FM randomly and sometimes starting the car with the iPod attached, it would not start the player up. The iDrive nav screen are much faster and the scrolling is very fast now. I believe they said I am now at rev 27.2.

I believe the iDrive isn't very model specific, the DME is though. I had an email into my SA and he got right back to me when I described my iPod problem. There is a SIB on record with the shop and it describes the solution as the iDrive update. Seems to work except when the iPod gets warm from being in the car.

I just got a software update yesterday -- I have a 2006 325 xi -- I was in for scheduled service and he said there was a recall related to Bluetooth. Iit took hours, so it must have been a complete update of the iDrive system.

iDrive now seems to come on more quickly (it would sometimes take a minute or two). Now less than a minute. The radio also stays on for a second after I pull the key (it didn't before).

the iDrive screen has a different look on the opening screen (more grays and less color), and the phone connects more quickly. The only other noticeable difference is the map display is much better. When I move from one town to another, the background color changes. More street names are visible, and there seems to be better definition of roads.

Oh, and the display on the dash in front of the wheel seems to have a slightly bigger font. I don't detect any changes in features there, et.

I recently had the smog recall and I have no power difference. I also thought the font looked larger on the instrument panel, but I wasn't certain. I need to repair my cell phone to see if that functions the same as before the update.

They cant update your car and decrease the power... Lawsuits would fly like a bat out of hell. You paid for 300hp you will get 300 hp or more, usually cars give you 10-20 more HP more than advertised to meet or exceed the "rated" mark to make up for any variance between motors. Kind of like the bakers dozen which is 13 just incase 1 is not up to spec/damaged/eaten by a worker..
