Phoenix E90Post Members - Dragstrip Night

Phoenix forum members,

The next Friday Night drags at Firebird Raceway in Phoenix is November 30th. I will be there along with some guys from my work, one who has a 2005 5-series with a Lingenfelter V8 + homebrewed intercooled twin turbo induction system that's dyno'd at just over 525whp. If any of you forum members can make it, let me know so we can coordinate!

Cheers!

Hmmm... 525 whp? Ask him to post up in the thread below and stop out! Lingenfelter V8? Is it a custom BMW motor or a swapped Chevy?

Funny you should ask. It actually is a Lingenfelter V8. He then designed and built a twin turbo installation with intercoolers. The update is that last week he was replacing a leaking power steering hose (which is apparently a pain in the ass since the whole engine install in a 5-series is custom), he forgot to reconnect the wastegate vacuum hoses. So he's leaving his house for work and got stuck in traffic. Gets pissed and decides to make a U turn and floors it. Wastegates don't open and the engine hits the rev limiter and BAM the tranny eats itself.

He's getting a race transmission the week after Thanksgiving and says it will be ready for the 30th. I'm curious to see what it runs in the 1/4. The ET will probably suck due to lack of traction, but I am expecting a trap speed near 120. I was in it with the original engine swap Corvette engine and it was brutally fast. That engine blew up and he bought the Lingenfelter motor.

It's a stock looking dark red 5-series (which I found out is actually a 2003) with a custom machined "557" emblem on the back (5-series, 5.7L engine, hence the 557). He lives in Awatukee back behind South Mountain.

I'm going to try to show up with some of my co-workers. I have a JB2R on my 335i, my co-workers have some fair cars as well. We'll see who comes... in the office we have a 400hp C4 S4 (first generation!), a Z4 M, a SVT Cobra, a Viper, and a B7 S4. I also invited a friend who has a MINI with a single turbo conversion.

Awesome! I'm sitting here watching the news and they're saying 20% chance for rain Friday and Saturday. I guess we just plan to go and hope for the best. My car hasn't seen rain yet and I want to keep it that way...

Have you been to Firebird yet or a dyno? If so, what did you run or what numbers did you put down (and where did you dyno!)

Cheers!

It's looking pretty bad for tomorrow with the rain coming in. If we don't go tomorrow, I'm planning for next Friday and definitely the 14th.

Wow, it's gettin pretty dark outside!! Too bad I'll be outta town till the 17th.....I REALLY wanted to see how v2 runs! Definitely make it out next month, by then, I should have a full custom exhaust & dp's so i'll be able to see how they do....

Is Firebird any better than Speedworld? I've gone to Speedworld a few times and the track prep there is sub-par...

It never rains here, what luck!

My company has a holiday party next Friday, but I'm going to try to be there on the 14th.

Never been to Speedworld. Firebird is a major NHRA track and I would expect their prep to be as good as any. I used to race my 87 Mustang GT there in the late 80's-early 90's....I still have it in my garage under resto!!!

Anyway, looks like the 14th will be the day. Not sure how I'm gonna hook up without drag radials. My PROcede V2.0.1 blows the tires away above 2,00rpm in 1st, through 2nd, and into 3rd right now. I need to do some practice runs with 1-push of the DTC button. If the V2.0.2 map is posted for the 6AT tomorrow or by the weekend, I should have it adapted and tuned by Friday next week. Honestly I can't imagine the car being a lot faster. It's traction limited right now and I'm running Michelin PS2's aleady...

Looks like tomorrow is going to be rained out also, so I expect a rediculous crowd there on the 14th...

I guess I'll be there on January 4th now.

Thumbs up

Ok you guys, tomorrow night the 14th is definitely a go (the race weather gods have finally smiled upon us...)

I have 5 other cars from work coming also. I should be there at 5:30 or earlier. See you there!!

Well, it was cold and the track prep wasn't the best. Best run was 13.22@107.98 The car was pulling awfully hard in 3rd and 4th. If I could get off the line with any traction at all, I would have been in the 12's easily. I'll go again when it's a bit warmer at race time, maybe 65 degrees...
