"First Delivery?"

I'm #5 on my preorder for an M4, and my dealer "guarantees" I'll be on the first shipment. He says production will be in early may for end of June/early July delivery. This seems a bit of a stretch to me. Anyone else have their dealer give a similar timeline for first batch delivery?

I'm not sure how your dealer can be so confident to get your car so early based in your #5 list spot. Though not official yet my understanding shared by Steve Thomas BMW on this forum is that dealers will get 1M3 and 1M4 per month to sell or maybe it will be you can order either one. Customer build slots begin in April so it would be 5 months following if you are #5 on list or 3 months if dealers can order either model for their allocation. So your build start is June at best with 3 month wait and as late as August with 5 month wait. You are looking at arrival between end of August at best or even as late as October. What a buzzkill huh! I sure hope I am dead wrong but have yet to hear of any different info from reliable source.

Considering that no allocations have been provided yet, I don't know how he can guarantee you will be on the first shipment, especially if you are #5 on the list like Suave said. The only cars with build dates are launch vehicles.

Agreed. I'm not convinced that a #5 preorder can get me first batch delivery. I called around and found a dealership that's further away from me in distance. I was able to get the #1 spot for the M4 plus pay half the deposit. I'm definitely willing to drive a bit for that.

Just so my comments are not taken out of context I am only speaking about "our" dealership when I say we are only getting 1 allocation of each a month. I also know of about a handful of other dealerships who we work with who are in the same boat.

All dealers are different and can receive more or less allocations based upon a variety of variables.

Some dealers will get less and some would get more (I doubt many more then 2 of each a month, but I could be wrong)

Ahh, got it, should have made the connection from Killeen > Germany > Junction City. My surprise is that local dealers sell cars, but don't really know much about them. Hence, over 20 years, I have bought 5 BMWs out of state.

You are right, I have pics and should take the time to post this weekend. Expecting snow on Sat, so I should load pics from disks taken at Heartland Park for Flatout Classic weekends. Am probably an exception from other forum members, I moved from an e46 M3 to e36.

Maybe I have trust issues, but I still have doubts when my dealer tells me that I'm first on the order list. This pre-order process is a bitch. Dealers can lie to you about your spot on the list just to get your business, and once they take your deposit and the order goes in, for all you know you could really be #10 on the list and be forced to wait till 2015 for your car.

Is there a way to actually confirm one's spot on the order list?

I'm not sure of the ability to confirm. A good buddy works at this dealership and asked if anyone was on a list before I came in.

No, it is all trust. Dealer's preorder lists are internal. They can show you a list with your spot, but that doesn't mean they won't slip someone in before you, like a good customer or someone willing to pay. Developing a long term relationship with a dealer you trust is your best bet. I bought my first new BMW from my dealer in 1973, but dealers change staff and may be sold over time, as well.

Is this a guess or do you have actual report showing Status 112?

Not a guess, I have a report although it is called status 1200 in UK but is the same as 112 in US- awaiting production. Week 27 is 1st week in July and does not mean 27th July. Week 24 is middle of June.
