7 digit post code on late 2010 CIC

Hi,
There are various thread / posts on how to enable 7 digit post codes on a CIC unit, but the responses seem to be a mixture of firmware and map updates.

On a late 2010 CIC unit (it has the small tick on the bottom left in the nav), do i need to upgrade the firmware to get 7 digit post codes or simply upgrade the maps to 2014 (the maps on the unit are 2010). I think the CIC came out of a car which had a combox (not sure if that matters).

Thanks

The firmware needs updating. A map update will not give you 7 digit postcode entry....

I have a dec 2009 build car with Pro CIC nav. When I got it I could only get 5 digit postcode. I upgraded the maps to 2013 version and then I could get full 7 digit entry.

I'd say its worth trying a map update before you start with firmware.

Same as above. I had 59 plate pro with the tick but had 5 digit. I upgraded to 2014 maps and now I have 7 digit. Yeah!

We have had this debate before and came to the conclusion that some cars need firmware, and some only need a map update. I'll see if I can find the thread...

Correct. It depends on the firmware which is on the CIC.
Few firmwares allow 7 digits postcode search whereas old CIC(s) require flashing.

I have all the traffic options enabled on the cic however whilst driving / stuck in traffic the satnav route map doesn't show anything to indicate traffic.
I have tried this over a few days so it across various routes.
If I click on the triangle in the navigation it does show where there's traffic but just not on my map/ route.

Any ideas?

It will show all traffic nearby, not only jams related to your route!

But the CIC will change the original route if there if traffic!

That's the problem. It's not showing any jams on my route.

When traffic warnings do appear they tend to hang around for hours after the traffic has cleared, so it's not exactly reliable

It's like the man says.

For instance: I have an early CIC build E92, '09 plate, manufactured October '08. I updated the maps to the 2013-1 version shortly after getting the car. Yet I still only have 5 digit postcode entry.

By that I mean that I can enter the whole 7 digits, but the Nav will issue directions to the centre of the town, rather than where the postcode actually is.

A CIC software update is on the cards at some point. I hate having stuff that doesn't work properly.

Why didn't you hold out for a 2011 CIC.... then you wouldn't have any of these issues!

School boy error!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. But not sure what the difference between a 2011 and a late 2010 would have been.

The 2011 versions are the ones you want (I think post 03/2011).... correct FW & are combox friendly without buying any codes or messing about with the software!
