Tough choice between M5 & M3/4 - basically same lease price. Thank you JMK in NJ!

Hey everyone,
I had posted on here earlier as I was awaiting news on frozen color options for the M4 I was dead set on ordering. With still no idea on frozen being available at launch, my dealer brought up an interesting offer.

Well I ended up going into my dealership and walking out with a 2014 M5 with comp package, executive, lighting, B&O sound system - msrp $115,300.

They are blowing out the M5/6 and I got $13k off sticker! As of March 1st BMW bumped the M5 residuals up 3% to 61% @ 10k miles.

What does this all mean? Well a fully loaded ~$80k M3/4 is going to lease for $1100+ with 0 down.

A loaded M5 ~$111,500 (comp, exec, lighting) is going to lease in the $1100s with 0 down as well. Even less if putting down MSD!

You can get an M5 for the same price! And it's for the newly updated LCI 2014! Can't beat that.

I was dead set on the M4 but now with 1k miles behind the M5 I couldn't be happier with my decision. First year M models are always very expensive to lease and there are always kinks to work out. By the time my M5 lease is up, the LCI M3/4 with comp package will be available and leasing for under $1k.

If anyone else is in the same boat give my sales guy Lucas S a call at JMK BMW in Springfield, NJ but they'll hook it up anywhere. Coolest sales guy I've ever dealt with. None of that pressure sales car tactics, etc. He gave me the best price possible on the M5 lease and my trade in without any negotiating. He has done the same for my mothers, sisters and friends car. I think they have a couple more M5/6 sitting around.

I drive 2-3k miles a month and the comfort of this car is . So nice to have all that luxury, technology yet it's still a rocket. Car handles so well too I feel comfortable pushing it as hard as I did with my M3. I took me a few hundred miles to get used to the size but it's definitely a sweet option to look at.

Down pipes & Tune are going on next week. Should be 600whp 550wtq

Lol pics to come. Just popped on the IND goodies. Instagram is NikB316. I hate the pic uploading on here! I can never just upload them from my phone without having to email to reduce size etc. or I'm being lazy lol

Whet exactly do you mean on the taxes? The prices are so close that the taxes are similar. And actually with the M5 having a better residual it more than makes up for it.

I finally got to take the car above 5.5krpm on the way home

I was a good boy during break in. Holy shit does this car pull on the highway!

Next Thursday I'm just about set for my downpipes & tune. Should be comparable to my s/c M3, except with all the luxury

I caved in 2 weeks ago and bought a 2013 M5 (Alpine white, full black leather, Exec package, Driver assistance, B&O). All options except carbon brakes. Car was 9 months old with 6k miles and I got it for $80k. Love it and dont regret the decision.

I think if you want a fully loaded m3/4, or are determined to lease, this makes a little sense

if you want a relatively basic m3 like me (65k build), or are trying to buy (also like me), this deal doesn't make as much sense.

to me the lightweight, track tech, CF roof, efficiency, and widebody looks give the m3 a huge advantage. but that's just what I like in a car.

Property taxes in va puts it at 4k a year. My M3 optioned at 73k will be around 2800 a year. Trust me the M5 is tempting :-)

Gblansten,
Nice! If leasing your M5 make sure to lock in this months rate. You can always change to next months if it's better (unlikely) but you can't go back. Dealer won't always mention this.

Thanks for the comments guys and yes she was on the lot. I would have ordered frozen black otherwise but I got tempted and am happy with my decision.

KennyPowers,
You are exactly right. Leasing an M3/4 doesn't make as much sense as buying. However, if you plan to buy after you lease than leasing isn't a bad option if you like the 0 down lower monthly payments for 3 years. The reason I say this is that the residual is going to be much better than what BMW is saying on the lease so your buyout will be below market value. This happens with all the M3s when they first hit the market and high leases on all new model BMWs. I remember when I leased my '08 M3 December 2008 for $880/mo. Everyone prior to December was paying $1050 minimum.

I just had my first highway run with the M5 after break in. WOW. The car hauls ass! Up to 140 in no time and silky smooth. I love how the car is designed for that kind of power and adding an extra 100+hp will keep it the same. Only a 20% increase or so.

The problem with that FI E92 M3s I've driven, every brand included, is that you really could tell the car wasn't designed for that kind of power. Of course going from 414 hp to 700hp+ is a 70% increase so this makes total sense.

For track junkies the M4/3 is the way to go...much lighter etc. I plan to track the M5 maybe 5-10 times this year and am confident it will do relatively well.

Have had my F10 M5 for 2 weeks now and love it. Just feels like a much more solid car and the torque is actually insane.

I'm going to have to wait until April to lock the rate. We are buying a new home and I don't want my credit run yet.

I have a 550i now, and am just waiting for the lease to expire. I have a deposit down for an M4, but after seeing it at the DC auto show, and also looking at the current market for the M4, I'm really leaning getting into an M5. Plus, I have kids that I cart around, and it is nice to have a bigger 4 door car.

Cool man congrats. I wouldn't get another M5 they are boats. As good as a 115k car sounds M3 is alway is faster than M5 and handles better.

Handles better, yes. Faster, nope. Although faster can mean different things.

The difference in terms of comfort, luxury and refinement of the M5 vs. M3/4 is night and day. I couldn't have been happier with my decision and you'd be surprised how well this car handles with the comp package.

If I was driving less miles and most of the time by myself I may lean toward an M4. With always having passengers and 2-3k miles per month it's a no brainer.

I'm really looking forward to how the M4 will drive. The M3/4 has always been the pinnacle of the M division.

With you driving that many miles, fuel economy was not a criteria in your decision? What kind of mileage are you getting on the M5?

For me the difference between an M5 and an M3 is that I actually have the M5 in my garage NOW and am able to drive it and enjoy it NOW, instead of just reading about it and staring at pictures of it on the internet and hoping that somehow I get an allocation from my dealer before next winter.

That's awesome man! Congrats and enjoy. I am sitting here looking at my F10 550i and even though it won't be as fast as my M3, I still like the size (family car biz car) and luxury of the F10. I just hope the appointments of the M3 are pretty close.

I would almost take the M5 if I could do the Euro delivery when everyone else is doing the M3 delivery.

Besides the fact that I don't want to spend more money!
