Moonroof Delete just added as an option for M235i

Just saw that the moonroof delete has been added to the configurator for the M235i for $0 for those who hate having one.

It's interesting that they just throw in new options randomly in the middle of the model year. I guess I'll have to keep watch before mine hits production in case any interesting choices pop up such as wheel options.

wow - this is cool ! I don't think this was ever an option with the 1er - other than the 1M - which could not have a sunroof.

I wonder if the roof is steel or something else?

I think it's more like 30 pounds, but still nice to see. The roof remains steel without the sunroof, same as the 228i.

Sucks for those that placed their order already...

Changes like this usually happen with MY or LCI changes. Interesting that they just throw it online really fast.

There's always the chance that they'll offer a carbon roof panel for the M2, like they did for the E46 CSL, that could be retrofitted to any 2er.

Also will add an inch or two headroom.

Interesting. I'm curious though... why are people so against a moonroof? Just because of the weight?

Great news. Curious about actual weight savings and really wish there were some cost savings, but hey, having the option is a step in the right direction for those who are frustrated with BMW's rigidity on 2 series specs.

Weight for the die-hards, headroom for the tall ones, BMW's assumptions and rigidity as to the makeup of the car for everyone else. Don't like the assumption that all Americans want one, that Americans don't want a cloth interior option, etc. etc. It'd be cool if BMW just let us build the car the way we want it. (moonroof's not a big issue to me, just trying to channel the thoughts of those that really care).

Other than the weight and headroom issues that others had listed, I think it's also one less thing that can go wrong with the car for those who keep it for many years. (The sunroof on my previous Acura failed and I passed on fixing it when I found out how much it was actually going to cost. I was lucky it broke while it was closed.)

But, aside from all that, I think it's a step in the right direction toward allowing us to have more customization options here in the US.

I like having a sunroof and wouldn't delete it unless I was getting a car that was more dedicated for the track. It was very surprising though for a new option to just pop up right in the middle of a production cycle.

Thanks 533! I just emailed my dealer asking him if he could please "add" the moonroof deletion to my order if it wasn't too late. Hopefully he can. I've never used a moonroof before so there is no need for it.

interesting!

I might just get this. I have used my moonroof maybe once on my 128i. In texas, the weather is too random. Its either really really hot, or really really cold. Not only that, but I do highway driving so the wind noise is annoying, and not needed.

With they offered a discount on it though : ). Less weight too!

Also, the sunroof on my 128i makes noise! Seems like the rubber seal isn't as good as it use to be

but I wonder if this will hurt resell value?

This is good news for helping make the car better, IMO. Now if they could offer the seats in a non-power option like Porsche is doing these days I would be really, really happy. I have a Recaro Sportster with heat I might retro-fit in, but hate to give up the thigh extension on the BMW seats.

Some ppl like myself dont use a moon/sun roof so its really pt less to have one. Its like the ashtray....never use it

One less electronic to worry about if it ever goes bad

Fair enough. I tend to prefer to not use A/C unless it's really ungodly hot, so I like having a bit more air flow and openness. It also offers a little air without having to open the windows and mess up my hair.

I don't track my cars, so I doubt there's much performance gain in deleting. The thought that it's one more thing that could break is valid, but I only plan to keep this car during warranty, so not too concerned about that either. If it were a cost savings, I might be tempted.

Thanks Five3three. I've been waiting for this. Definitely a delete for me. I am surprised there is no credit though....was hoping to apply it towards some M Performance stuff.

Nice to see them offer the deletion. I had sunroof voltage errors on my 335 for years. It would open, then would not close. Had to take out the tools to close it manually, then try to get it working again and clear the stored error. Spent >$200 to try replacing the motor, still same voltage errors. Finally figured it out, but did not use the moon roof for years. Wish i could have deleted it. I ordered my 335 without idrive and without navigation to limit electronics. There is still probably 15 computers and 75 sensors on the car.
