ED and the 'Ring - break-in??

So do I REALLY have to follow the break-in procedure on the M5 before I open her up on the Ring?

I'm just not going to have the ability to put the number of miles called for on the car before I get to the Ring.

Thoughts?

I did the heard brake in for the first 50-60 miles then follow the breaking procedures (well minus one or two quick Spurts of speed). I had the car serviced in Baden Baden at 1000mi before heading up to the ring. The road to the ring from Baden is mostly unlimited speed =) At the black forest around Baden Baden was the best drive of the whole trip. I woke up the next morning and did it all again while the wife was sleeping =).

I would not drive the ring hard until you get the car broken in. YOU can however still drive the ring, put the car in S and follow break in rules. Keep right on the track.

A bit confused as your signature says you have a 550ix on order for ED on June 30th... Don't know if the 550ix has the same break in procedure as a M5, if it's a 550ix you are getting?

Well, I am actually in the middle of changing the order to a M5.

I drove directly from Welt to Ring and had no problems. Went very easy first 100km on the way, then did a few bursts of power in diff gears.

One on the Ring, we drove it hard, but not like 10/10th racing hard. More like 7/10th. New track / new car / no helmets puts your brain into more of a "country road" driving mode than a track day on a circuit you know.

No problems at all. I know dozens of other people here have done the same. And many others have done the full break-in including first service before tracking it. Depends on you level of conservatism and whether you itinerary allows it.

Thanks cnicholson!

This is EXACTLY my thought process. I have no intentions of taking this thing to the limits in the first 2 months...let alone first 2 weeks of ownership!

I would not take a car to ring before break in complete. But I own my car, and don't want to mess it up. If you're leasing then it's BMWs problem not yours.
