Stop Lights

This is kind of off topic but are the stop lights in the US for cars only? Today I almost hit a guy because he biked when it was my green light. He even argued that it was for him and not for me. I don't remember seeing that in the book that I studied for the written test few years back. Don't they use the pedestrian light?

I believe the bikers are also supposed to see the 'car traffic lights.'
They even have to stop at stop signs, which most of the bikers don't do.
Correct me if i'm wrong.

Bicyclists in the US are by law expected to follow the same rules as auto drivers.

As a long time cyclist (nearly 40 years of touring), I'm fairly familiar with this issue. Fact: bicyclists are required to follow the exact same rules as cars on surface streets, and can be cited if they choose to disregard said rules. Personally, I attempt to set an example for other cyclists by following every rule possible (errr, well, I've been known to roll through a "Stop Sign" when out in "Resume Speed, Iowa" or some such place that offers a ten mile radius of visibility).

Best Regards,
Shipo

That's my understanding, too. They are supposed to follow the same rules as automobiles. I'm not a bicyclist, but it must be a drag to stop at every light/sign when you are relying on muscle power to keep going. I don't see many cyclists stopping for signs if they think they have a clear run. I try to be extra careful around cyclists. They're judgement is clouded by endorphins half the time, anyway.
