New F80 M3/M4

Hi,

Anyone placed an order yet?
I am looking to place an order for a M3 in the next few weeks. I got some initial figures from the local dealer on a 3 year PCP deal. I also got a quote from Broadspeed who are looking the best so far. Waiting for Drive the Deal to get back to me.

What do people think are the must have options?

Seriously looking

I'm taking a serious look at the new M3. It looks gorgeous (IMO)and if the turbo motor of my M135i is anything to go by, the new M3 will be an absolutely awesome car.

The only thing that gives me pause for thought is the M135i, which is a pretty capable car and costs a lot less to run

Must have options?

DCT (the 8 speed AT in the M135i is pretty remarkable )
Reversing camera.....because I like to see what's behind
Harmon Kardon speakers.....because standard BMW speakers are really not very good.
Tinted windows because they look cool
Adaptive headlights.....because they are truly remarkable on narrow winding country lanes on dark winter nights
LCD headlights......????? don't know. If they offer more light and better range then yes. The adaptive Xenons in the M135i are already quite remarkable so don't know if LEDs are going to be that much better

Heated rear seats and steering wheel and heads-up display are not on my list of must haves, and I don't believe I need the fade free stability of ceramic brakes as I don't do track days
I'm still waiting to hear from my local dealer about PCP rates.

Could you PM the kind of deal you've been offered and I'll reciprocate once I've heard from my local guys?

6 cyl M3 has to be manual.

DCT on V8 maybe, but no way on a torquey turbo 6.

Why by a driver's car then ruin it with a shopping gear box?

What about lease deals, there'll be some good ones early doors I'm sure...

Drive the deal have got back to me saying they are currently unable to provide quotes on BMWs due to issues with their dealer and that the BMW option will be removed from their website and re-instated when they are able to provide quotes!

Well i earnt just over that mark, albeit self employed on a price and some real good months some real bad, but i just dont think i could justify spending £250 a week on finance/lease for a car that your never going to own

Here's how you justify it

A decent 2-3 litre family car is going to cost you £400 - £500 per month plus insurance

An M3 with options is going to cost you say £900.....so essentially an M3 costs you £100 per week extra to drive vs. your nice family car.

Many hobbies, will cost you a lot more than £100 per week and lets face it, you're driving an M3 for the passion and enjoyment of driving a high performance sports car rather than the utility of comfortable transport....So look at an M3 as transport + hobby + fulfilling a dream and there should be no problem justifying the expense, assuming of course that you have sufficient income

Finally, we're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time, so fill the time you have with as many dream achievements as possible!

+1 Our household income annually gross is comfortably more than that, there's no way we could afford 1k+ / month of payments on a car.

Even if your talking about 50k net which is 70k gross, per months your only taking home 4k, to justify than spending 1/4 on a car you have to like it alot

Even at 100k gross your net income isn't that much more (thank you Mr tax man)....and I don't think 100k jobs come up all that often

I've been working out the total cost of ownership recently for 335 in view of changing cars at some point in the next few years...

ALL IN, assuming 50% depreciation at 3 years, including all mods, servicing/repairs, insurance and tax my 335 has cost me 640/month to own...and to be quite honest that's probably the limit am prepared to spend on a car. Depreciation is by far the biggest cost, even without spending on mods the cost of the car works out at 450/month....

Ofcourse the difference between buying and renting is that when I've owned it for 3 years (next month), I can keep the car for another 3 year, and assuming same rate of depreciation (meaning car will be worth 5k in 3 years ) and I'm done spending on mods, the total running costs will drop to 300/month, including budgeting 100/month for repairs/servicing

The new M3 looks amazing, but is it worth x3 what am paying for my car per month, am not so sure : and that's the 'rental' cost not the total ownership cost, and in 2-3 years time you have to another big deposit to get into another rental deal. Too rich for me to even think about

Tbh if i was a single man earning the money i do now i would be driving an m3/c63/rs5 type car, as im lucky if i use the car 2-3 times a week, but having a wife and 2 young kids and renting a house i just couldnt justify it

Update from Drive the deal. Their BMW dealer cannot keep up with the orders hence the need for some breathing space before providing new quotes. I hasten to add this is across the BMW range not M3s :-).
