2015 Porsche Cayman/Boxter 395 HP 4 cylinder turbo boxer engine versus M4/M3

Here is something interesting i just read. 395Hp with a turbo engine should also have a decent torque. The MPG should be great and the Porsche cayman mid engine setup is legendary in handling. They should also be able to drop more weight with the new engine i expect less than 3000 Lb range as i think they should be able to save around a 100 Lb with the 4 cyl setup. Thats around 400 Lb less weight than an M4. The Mid engine balance and around 400HP car should be something truely awsome. I wonder how it will perform against The M3/M4. I was considering C63 AMG and RS5 but the AWD and heavy setup was making me think my only option to get a sport RWD with a MT was an M3/M4. This is peaking my interest and makes me want to wait till i commit on a M4. Decisions decisions There is chance it will be in the 2016 facelift released late 2015 as the new version was recently released.

Is 395hp right? If so that's great news. I thought I heard it was more like 365hp or something only 15hp or so more from the previous models.

Guess I need to fact check myself.

Nothing has been declared as fact, the Porsche CEO stated that they will produce a 4 cylinder engine for the future Cayman/Boxster (The 395hp figure seems to have been stated by an inside source as what the engine COULD make, not that this version would be produced for sale).

This is NOT a 2015 vehicle but the future model.

As many in the world of autos know: why would Porsche risk taking a hit on their most profitable car (911) for a faster and 45 more HP Cayman/Boxster ?

This is what I was thinking when I responded earlier. Much less than the hp noted above, could be different cars I guess, but they sure do look similar.

we will see if they can make a 4 cyl that makes 395 hp, and put it in that car. Seems unlikely since the carerra s makes 400 hp.

also, I doubt it will be much lighter than the outgoing 6. turbo cars have a lot more ancillaries and cooling equipment that adds a lot of weight. this is why the s55 isn't too much lighter than the s65.

I read Porsche is taking a few kilos out and adding 15hp. Doubt they will boost it up to 400. I bet they only offer it with an auto trans..

Indeed. As we've all learned by now, they won't do that.

This turbo four will eventually go into the 911 as well. Whether it ends up there first or the Boxster/Cayman first, it's not going to be tuned to produce more power in Cayman and Boxster than the base 911 has at the time of its release.

I suspect that both the 911 and 911 S will get this engine sometime before the 991 gets replaced. Perhaps the "991.2". Small chance the S will either stay N/A or get a ~3L turbo H6 instead of a 2.xL turbo H4.

this is a picture of the upcoming GTS isn't it? And the 4 cylinder turbos will take place of the low end engines (280hp ish?)....funny that now the "turbo" assignment will only mean "the expensive version"
