Seatbelt Butler not picking up

My seatbelt butler has stopped picking up the belt.

It comes forward but the end doesn't pop out to grap the belt.

I can manually pull it and it clips in and when it retracts it does go back in.

I know this is a common problem, but what is the real fix?

Cheers.

I have this problem too which i noticed yesterday.

It has nothing to do with ironing the belt... Although that should be done too.

The actual end of the belt butler doesnt pop out to even catch the belt.

I am unsure what to do and havn't looked into it yet...

If the 'finger' on the end of the extender doesn't go limp when you move it and is fairly springy it's fine. work out at which point the unit contacts the belt, pull it out of the reel, spray starch it and iron!
The amount of e92 I see with the issue is nearly 50/50 and this cures it every time.

Sometimes mine would be pulled to far out. Theres an extension from the first arm to the second. Make sure you have those pushed tight to eachother.
That ended up working for me for me but i pulled the fuse on those things anyways. I hated them.

I took one to bits to see how they work, there is a little spring and cog, as it extends it pulls the spring and works the cog, it then flips out and grabs the belt, this action only works on the second extension, mine was sticking in on the odd occasion, so I waited for it to come out, grabbed it, sprayed the end with Wd40, give it a wiggle then let go, and it went back in, not had any problems scince.
I think I still have the drivers one in bits if anybody wants them,
Also have a complete passanger side cheap if anyone needs it

I had a 5 min look at it today.

The arm comes out fully, but the end tip that grabs the belt has little spring tension. It folds back when it touches the belt. It does come back out afterwards.

So you need a new head with a new spring to push the little bit out to catch the belt?

I think it's a nice little feature.

I've never had an issue before this failure.

Dont waste your time ironing the seatbelt just change the end part on the butler arm . Also there is a plastic clamp which clamps around the bottom bar it holds the belt out a bit further.

Flattening the belt and the finger being faulty are two seperate issues...
And ironing the belt does work.Well it's that or a new seatbelt anyway.

IIRC the part numbers are...

Left - 72119165381
Right - 72119165382

(Above is for late 2007 to early 2012 models).
