Are you reserved about you're mileage ?

Got a new vehicle another E93 and this one has 9,700 miles and to be honest is if only me or is there others out there who are actually reserved to how much mileage they do a month?

I'm currently doing 600-750 is this a lot ?

12K a year isn't unusual for one car; some people drive over a couple of thousand a month, and since I retired, I'm only averaging about 8-9K per year. While working, I averaged around 10-12K, occasionally more.

What can affect the vehicle more is how those miles are put on...lots of short trips and cold starts is MUCH harder on the vehicle and the oil than longer trips where the vehicle can run for awhile after everything is fully warmed up. Because most of my trips now are shorter, I'm thinking of buying an i3 which shouldn't really care for running around town, and if I do, the car won't see that many miles, but those put on it will be better for it.

My car had just under 14000 miles on it when I bought it. It was just over 3 years old at that point.

12 months on its done just over 30000 so I've more than doubled it. I buy a car to use as I see fit, how many miles it has when I sell it is not something I worry about.

Not driving a car to save it for the next owner is like not having sex with your girlfriend to her more attractive to her next boyfriend.

A car is their to be driven and used not stuck in the garage and just polished! I drive between 18-20k motorway mileage a year on my 330d. However it is well looked after and I will keep it for 4 years. That's why I always purchase a 2 year old car which has already lost about 50% of its value with very low miles. I always find that very low mileage cars really do not hold their value any more, regardless what their owners believe! So just use it as they are designed to be driven, regardless of what some individuals believe! However just look after it and keep it well maintained.

I'm currently doing 1600 miles a month, have been for the last 8 months and will continue to do so for the next 18 months....But it's all been done in our Civic, owned from new done 80k, and going strong, still not had a single mechanical fault!!

The 335 is currently used by my wife for her commute which is currently a 8 miles round trip

I would love to do my commute in the 335 but it makes no financial sense, the 335 is less economical and consumables cost more to replace....though my wife has kindly destroyed one rear diffuser, kerbed every wheel and picked up a few new door dongs in 8 months of use. But not too bothered since the 335s days are numbered

I suspect for some owners the way they have purchased it is going to make a difference.

After all, if they bought it on a cheap lease with a 10k per annum limit and hefty excess mileage charges, they will possibly think twice before going on a long journey. Others of course wont care

I guess it's because I just got my E90 335 last Wednesday(1st car)I don't really care about the mileage, and I just really trying to find any excuse to drive....

But I see myself becoming really conservative with it in the near future.

Not being funny mate but your not happy with your car are you, looking at the numerous topics you've made

'Does depreciation bother you'

'Having to sell the car to maximise return'

'Reserved about mileage'

All these things point to the fact something niggling you about the car, either sell up & get something you won't be concerned about loosing a packet on, or just throw caution to the wind and enjoy your sub 10k mile nearly new convertible, which I presume is the reason you bought it in the first place!

Just remember - it depreciates whether you drive it or not.

You pay for insurance, tax and servicing whether you drive it 5k miles per year or 25k per year.

I was doing 20k miles per year in my modded 335i. Yes it's more expensive to run than a ford focus diesel, but it's also a much nicer place to be! Mine now has 112k miles at 5 years old. I maintain it well for me, not the next owner. It's got to a point where the car is so spot on and worth so little I can't justify replacing it!!

We are not talking about keeping miles off a Ferrari for long term value...

My 2007 330d had 80k when I bought it at 4 years old. To my mind, that 20k pa meant it had done some proper motorway miles, not been chugged around town and coked up. I'd have the same approach for any diesel car.

I've put almost another 20k on it each year for the last 3 years.

IMO, mileage is much less important than service history or general condition.

My wife does 6-7000 miles per annum in our car, one of the reasons for this is because we live in a town where everything is close by.

My sons nursery is 2 minutes travel, the wife's gym is 2 minutes travel etc etc.

You got it spot on Jamie, I'm not unhappy haha it's just I'm thinking with my head I just don't want to lose out financially ( obviously a car is a depreciating asset ) but recently a few envious family members been messing with my head telling me all sorts about what cars depreciate etc to

I love my E93 it has been an excellent car but as stated above I'm being cautious ... That's all

Ps you should get a job as mind reader you got it spot on, iv contemplated getting another car but hey I dont think I will I love it to much

Just don't be so cautious that it ruins the experience of owning and enjoying the car. You could of bought a brand new Ford Mondeo or Vauxhall Insignia then you would of had good grounds to of been cautious!

Whilst in no way related to the topic, that is utter nonsense. You seem to be suggesting that every time a woman has sex she gets slightly less attractive? That's both sexist: Derogatory, and ludicrous...

Anyway, I agree about "using your own car" mind you, just not that ridiculous metaphore heh

I did 80k miles in my 320d in 3 years, which is pretty high of course.

The 335d has done little 10k in over 2 years!!!

But it still gets a good run as and when I can

Don't get me wrong I've been in your shoes a few times Kassim, the thing is, I've never seen another AUC car which has quite turned me on as much as a white lci m sport coupe with red leather so I'd be kicking myself if I got rid, just keep hold of it mate, life's too short, the only reason family members are putting ideas in your heads probably because they're jealous! I'd not let things others say, you made the decision to buy it in the first place just drive it & enjoy it for the Beautiful car it is!
