hello forum
just wondering if 100-110 degrees is normal operating temp for my engine under normal driving conditions. have searched the forum but would like feedback from uk owners. car has the seven speed double clutch gearbox in case that makes a difference and it has the twin scroll turbo (n55 engine) thanks to anyone who responds |

not sure but i have reading some threads earlier and some members were talking about their temp going over 90 and that being too much so i thought that maybe 80ish degrees maybe the norm

110-120 degrees is normal on my n54 335i.
These cars run hot. Nothing to worry about..

80 is way too low, the oil is barely warmed up then. The target is pretty much 100c, boiling point for water, so 110c is nothing to worry about. A hot day driving around town without much air for cooling will see 120c. That is still not near the red zone.

OP don't confuse water temp with oil temp, your gauge is oil .
Stable oil temp Is the true indicator of a warmed engine. Water temp will always be lower than oil. Oil should always run over 100degC to boil off any moisture properly. 110-120 oil temp is fine for a 335i (or any engine for that matter) 137 is limp mode, but you'll only get that on a track day. |

If you're not confusing them then you'd know that oil always runs over 100 and water always less the diesel threads about low temps are all water related.
Don't worry too much about water temp, oil is the important one. Your engine has a water/ oil heat exchanger in the filter housing, so at first the water helps to heat the oil from cold, then the water cools the oil as the oil becomes hotter than the water. Finally an oil thermostat set at 115deg sends oil to the oil cooler radiator in the offside front bumper grill, thats why 110-120 is the regular range. 335s are lucky, most E9x don't have any temp gauge at all. Hidden menus will get water temp. Last edited by doughboy; 03-31-2014 at 10:46 AM.. |

also any engine thats turbo charged will have a higher oil temp due to the turbo. That oil temp is ok as previously said. it will vary alot with different driving situations
