N55 M135/235 tuning

Copied from my post on the 1-series forum;

Just realised I'd been rather remiss and not actually posted any of the results from my tinkering with my 2013 N55 M135i...

So in short I will say that the car was dyno'd at Surrey Rolling Road in the UK along with several other 1-series cars a couple of weeks ago. They use a Dyno Dynamics RR in shoot-out mode and this is usually a very stern and honest piece of kit.

The standard M135i's (and those with BMWMP exhausts) made the correct and expected numbers of around 325hp, 330 ftlb

I was very happy to achieve a rather better than expected 394 hp and 450 ftlb

Performance mods on my car (so far) are a BMS JB4 running Map 2, full Scorpion decat downpipe and exhaust system, Forge Motorsports intercooler and BOV, Birds/Quaife ATB diff

As you can see, there aren't that many mods on the list so far and I have several more in the pipeline -including a Forge charge pipe, Forge intake and then the addition of water/meth injection should hopefully see me over the 400 mark...

Very impressive numbers for the overall peak gains.

Very nice gains!

I never tuned my N55 135 - but had some insane numbers on my N54 135 with just a JB3 and intake. It seems harder to extract power from the N55, or am I nuts?

Also, with the M235 being "turned up" to 326 to begin with, the JB4 nets you about 25-30 HP, correct?

Ok chaps.

Since you asked for it I'll try and layout all my mods and the respective gains achieved at each stage. Obviously these weren't all tested on the same rolling road and on the same day and the car will have loosened up over time but hopefully it should give all those interested an insight into what's possible. These numbers are all backed up by dyno plots, most of which I was present for...Please don't shoot the messenger or start a dyno flame-war; we all know how unreliable a lot of dyno data can be...

0. Stock; 322 hp, 334 ftlb

1. Scorpion catback exhaust to replace OEM system; 334 hp, 340 ftlb

2. Scorpion decat DP added to TBE above; 342 hp, 358 ftlb

3. JB4 Map 2 added to above; 378 hp, 440 ftlb

4. Forge FMIC and BOV added, dropped IAT from 60 degC to 30 degC; 394 hp, 450 ftlb

5. ????

Bruce - where did you get the Quaife? Looking at the US Quaife site I see no BMW applications, unless you count Minis

Birds BMW in the UK commissioned Quaife to develop the kit. I see they have USA dealers; http://www.birdsauto.com/content/qua...w-and-mercedes
