Cracked 313 wheel

Hi chaps

What's the current position on BMW replacing cracked wheels under warranty?

My car is in for service today, they have just phoned me and said that one of my standard 19" 313Ms is cracked. They are doing a run out test (at my cost) and they say if its still within tolerance BMW will pay for a new wheel out of 'goodwill' and if its not within tolerance then I am sh*t out of luck as BMW don't warranty the wheels.

Sounds like a croc to me. How can the wheels not be covered under the same warranty as the rest of the car?

Thanks
Chris

Chris, dont accept anything other than a new wheel FOC.

When cleaning & painting the hubs on my 2011 320d, i noticed a crack, phoned BMW Assist who come out collected my car, dropped off a courtesy car & the local dealer (bowker preston) replaced the wheel no quibbles.

a run out test is absolute bollocks, it shouldn't have cracked regardless.

If they play up speak to the dealer principal followed by BMW UK.

OK well they say its 4.5mm out of shape so they are not replacing it. The dealer are refusing to budge at all.

Iv gone through 3 of these alloys in 1 year at £600 a pop its fucking ridiculous!
There is either a serious design flaw in them or they should not be sold with run flats!

I think you must be unlucky - I found them to be a really strong wheel ... kerbing them was my issue but I have been unlucky enough to him some horrendous pot holes and all was ok.

I don't think the 313's have a significant issue with cracking unlike the 225's

That was my opinion too - until today!

I have had 313's since 2009 on 2 different cars and covered over 100,000 miles on them in that time..... Maybe I am just unlucky, or its a genuine bang its had at some point.

From what I heard it seemed like the rears were the common failures with the 225s and this one is a front....

Perhaps if I get it welded up properly it will last, rather than the 225s which seem to fail again after being welded....

They are made by BBS and I caant say ive saw many with cracks before, with 4.5mm run out and a crack, you must have hit something pretty hard at some point. I can see why they aren't warrantying it, does the wheel have ANY chorrosion at all on it, round the cantre cap or on spokes? with no kerb damage near the chorrosion? if there is, they will have to replace it through that route with no choice

that is why i have a set of reps now.

Got my car for a few month then i was told both rears cracked on my mv4

bmw replaced them and i sold the set and got non rft and 313 reps.

ran them for 2 years with no issue, i kerb it alot and drive thur potholes like no tommorow and still no crack.

i will never run runflats again. when you loose pressure and cause tyre to under inflate and you wait til tps come on, it is too late. i suspect that is how your wheels cracked.
