Wondering if anyone has tried this. If so let me know how it worked. I bought a 2006 330i in 2005. The following year they came out with the 335i. The 330i has served me well except for one thing. The brakes just can't take the track. Now the car is clearly not as fast as a 335i so frankly the brakes don't need too much extra to handle the speeds that it can attain at the track.
Anyhow, track season is rapidly approaching here in the midwest and I thought I'd look at a poor mans big(ger) brake upgrade for my 330i. Here is my thought. Stock 330i: 330x24mm rotors in the front. 336x22mm rotors in the rear. (yes smaller in the front - what was BMW thinking!) Stock 335i: 348x30mm rotors in front 336x22mm rotors in the rear Other factors: Same hub on 330 and 335 Same master cylinder on 330 and 335 Same carrier on 330 and 335 Different hydro unit between 330 and 335 Proposal: Buy 335 calipers and brackets and I have a big(ger) set of brakes up front which is where I have had an issue. The 18 extra mm plus the 6 mm added width and associated ventilation should be just enough. The spend for this should be low considering my track activities already have me swapping rotors at least once a year anyway because they can't take the abuse. I can get some remanufactured calipers for $90 a piece. Add some OEM rotors and brackets and for about $400 I should have a better setup that may not burn through rotors and pads the way I do now. Anyone tried this? If so, any feedback? |
