Random one....... Tyre monitors

I've got the older 2007 e92 which just has the overall tyre pressure monitor, but I've had the new cic idrive retrofitted early last year (best mod that can be done to the interior) well was just wondering if there's a way of having the new tyre pressure monitor installed so that it measures each tyre independently?

Thanks

And sorry if it's a daft question

The BMW system doesn't monitor the tyre pressures but compares rotational speed between wheels, as a tyre deflates circumference reduces hence rotational speed will change - as far as I'm aware the system is part of the ABS setup

On the vast majority but some early cars have physical sensors built into the valves to monitor pressure in real time.

I don't think it's anything to with age. Mines early and is ABS monitored.

I think it was an option, or an M feature or something.

Yeh mine has the abs type system, I just thought for some reason that the later cars had specific pressure monitors for each wheel, but obv not my bad

It was a factory specced option on early cars ,more accurate than calculating wheel speed rotations.you never saw this much at all and is a pretty rare sight.

The ABS sensors don't go off until the axle is roughly 8psi different from what I've found.

Yup something like that,or if you have a rapid drop in pressure.i got a puncture before and tyre was practically deflated by the time it came on.

I think the US cars have the actual valve pressure sensors as standard.

May even be a requirement over there, had a rubbish hire car with almost no spec to speak of while there not long ago, but it had a display for each tyres pressure on the dash.

We got a new F10 with a tyre pressure system. It comes up with individual PSI's for each tyre on iDrive. Not sure how accurate it is as i havent tested it but it would be very cool to have it on an E92.

There must be a way to do it. Makkan will know.
