Suspension help - front struts no longer travel fully

I had KW V1's put on my 2011 335i with xDrive last summer and I now need to put back on the stock suspension.

I brought my car to my local mechanic and he showed me that both front struts no longer travel the full distance and as such, they can't be installed.

Any ideas how something that worked, was taken off and put in a box, now is not functioning properly?

Has this happened to somebody else?

I really don't want to have to buy new front struts (it will cost me around $500-600) for a car that I will be returning to BMW in a few months.

Thanks in advance for your help.

George

"can't travel full distance"

was mechanic saying they don't compress sufficiently or don't extend back out?

if it's the latter, check out this link:
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...+plate+install

lengthy discussion of situation where the stock BMW strut shaft retracts back into the strut body, as a normal function.

Not saying this is your problem or your mechanic is wrong, just throwing this out there.

Can't fully extend in order to install them.

What you are describing sounds like the problem and makes sense to me.

Let me dig into that thread.

Thanks,

George
