Just FYI not sure if you are aware you can extend the coverage any time before your original coverage lapses. No reason to do it now. In 4 years if you want to keep the car you can do it then. If you want something else you aren't paying for the coverage for the next guy.

On another brand of car I recently purchased new for my wife, the pricing for the manufacturer's extended warranty was higher if not purchased within the first 60 days of ownership. I wonder if the same rule applies to the BMW Protection Plan.

I do not believe so. That said if you can negotiate a discount as part of purchase you might come out ahead. However I assume some other aspect of the deal would be increased to compensate. It's all the same pile of money at the end of the day.

On this other brand of car, I went back about 30 days after the sale, armed with competitive information and negotiated a better price on the warranty. Since I one can buy the factory extended warranty from any dealer it helped me negotiate a better price on the warranty after the sale.

You can get those for 100 or 200 over invoice which can represent a significant discount. I paid about 20-30% off msrp's for both the extended maintenance and the extended warranty on my E90 that I bought with 49996 on the odometer.

There's definitely no benefit to buy those early. The dealer of course will try to push you and say it's cheaper to get it from the start.

Did anyone else purchase the extended warranty? How much did you pay?

I plan on keeping this vehicle for awhile. I have a really bad habit of cycling cars every 2-3 years, but this one's a keeper.

Edit: Emailed an acquaintance of mines at a dealership and he quoted me $2,400 for the 7/70k gold warranty, is this a good deal?
