Brakes replacement already?

Hey guys... just wondering if this sounds normal. Opinions appreciated.

I have a '13 328i xdrive, with 20,000 km.

I noticed my brakes monitor showed they would be due for service in 500km, i thought this was a little quick and remembered people mentioning sensor calibration being the reason for premature brake replacement warnings.

During my recent service visit I asked them take a look at my brakes and due to some coding malfunction on my exhaust, it took a while to get my car back.

When I did, my brake warning had gone from km's remaining to now a constant warning.

Does this seem a little quick?

The dealer suggested a full pad / rotor/disc service job ($650+taxes). Is it likely or recommended to replace the whole system this quick?

Any opinions / information appreciated!

New pads and rotors at about 12,500 miles is not normal, unless you driving and "braking" very aggressively on a regular basis.

Regardless, it should be covered by your BMW 50,000/4 yrs complementary maint. program- unless Canada doesn't have that. It the dealer stating it is at your cost??

It may also be indicating that you could be due for a brake fluid flush. Normally it's recommended every 2 years. But regardless, this is covered under 4yr/50K maintenance.

My car is currently in the shop for a couple minor items. They mentioned they were also applying a new software update that managed the brake service interval better. Mine was showing 1,000 or so miles left, but they said I had about 90% pad left (which is what prompted them to apply the update). Maybe this applies to you as well?

My car was serviced last week for the first time, at 21 000 km. The iDrive was showing the same 500 km brake service notice as you so they updated my software since I also had 90% left on the pads. Now the status notice shows 37 000 km until front brake service and 35 000 for the back.

My front rotors where warped on the other hand so they swapped those under warranty.

Had the same experience. My car was showing front brakes in 2,000km prior to my first service at around 16,000km. After that service which included a software update, they are back up to the 36,000km+
