Over Cautious Traction Control

I was driving home the other day in light rain, got on the the motorway and as I wad accelerating I noticed all of a sudden my engine power drop, a quick glance down and I noticed the traction control light flashing away.

http://youtu.be/auODC8b4Vvo

It's a remapped 320D, so around 200hp, and doing around 60mph in 5th gear. No reason for it to be kicking in that much. Like I said, the road was a bit wet but no standing water or anything.

Anybody else know why it could be doing it? Problems with any sensors or anything?

I get it cutting in if I floor it from a standstill or rolling at 20mph or so, but having it kick in at 60mph in 5th was just ridiculous!

I have already been greatful for it before when going round a corner and hitting some wet tram tracks!

The tires are 255 wide and still got decent tread left on them, probably only done 5k on them or so.

I had this also back in late december on the M6. Scared the crap out of me. Probably had 3mm of tread on the tyres which didn't help. Then again, I knew that it was doing it's job :-)

reason why i ask what tread/tyres was because I had 2/3mm left on the rear tyres and accelerating on a motorway from 60+mph TC would flicker (first time it happened scared the hell out of me)

once I replaced the tyres, same scenario and it was ok

As the tyres wear below 3mm the grip drops considerably. Mine are around 2mm on the rear now (will be getting replaced in the next few weeks) and the TC doesn't really know what to do as the front has so much grip. Can kick the back end out on roundabouts with it on. Gonna miss that.

Didn't someone else have a similar issue to this a while back. I am sure there is a thread about it. It was an electrical issue IIRC?

Perhaps you went over a wet manhole cover?

It was on a motorway, there's no manhole covers. Plus if you watch on the video, it does it 2 or 3 times and had been doing it a good while before as well.

The tyres have a good 5mm tread or so, doubt it would be that causing the issue.

Have you sorted it yet? My garage says it's probably the ABS pump, lot of dosh for guesswork. Does it stop playing up if you disengage the T/C?

Mine did that until i got rid of the RFTs. Pull out sharpish to overtake a car in the wet and the back end would start to slide. IMO the wet grip of RFTs when cold is so poor the TC has to be set very cautious.

Mine only did it on this one journey, never had it do it again at all!

Sorry that's not much help to you though.
