E90/91 Front PDC Retrofit!
First post on this forum peeps, so here it goes!
Recently purchased a UK Model 2007 E91 330D MSPORT Wagon / Touring and I am looking to retrofit Front PDC as i got very used to the function in my previous E39. The car has rear PDC controlled from the Idrive system. Ive looked the parts up on Realoem but for the retro fit kit it states "Not for Sport" anyone have any ideas or experience with retrofitting front PDC to the MSport vehicle? Also im struggling to find the part number for the cockpit switch unit in the console which appears to control the front PDC, this is a button on the same unit which has the two switches for the front heated seat control which my vehicle also has. Any info would be greatful! Thanks Kris |

I thought the UK got front PDC? I know us in the US do not get front PDC but thought it was available elsewhere like Europe.

Uk gets front PDC as an option pack, rear PDC is mainly standard on most E90/91's, im also trying to locate the front PDC control module if anyone knows where it is on the car?

I would also like to know. I love the front PDC on the 5 series and want to get it in my e90, if at all possible.

I have front PDC in my 5 series too and IMO it is pretty useless because it does not look down low enough to see the curb. Once you get use to the car you pretty much know where your front is so you don't really need it anyways. If you have to park again a wall you can tell how close you are from the reflection of your headlights.
Rear PDC is good to have when you have to back into a parking spot. That I won't argue. I use it regularly in my 3 and my 5.

I don't know too much as I went for the PDC all round on mine. Nice choice of car though!
However, looking in the accessory catalogue for the UK there is a Low Version of PDC which has sensors mounted to the "license plate holder", but also a High Version described as SA507/508 which are the codes for the full proper PDC at time of order. Front is 66210397644 and Rear is 66210397645, both priced at £195 with the note that sensors need to be purchased seperately. You may then also get stung for a new bumper with the appropriate fixings for the sensors. It should be possible, but at dealer prices won't be cheap.

I have a 2008 335i cab and live in Canada. I did do the research to install the front kit (I have the rear + navigation). BMW dealers can print you an installation guide (designed for their techs). Basically you need a kit that includes everything except the 4 sensors that must be ordered by colour. You may not paint the sensors after you get them. On the E93 the control unit in mounted on the pass side behind the backrest on the backseat - where it is on the wagon I am not sure but the kit should just allow you to tap into the contoller via a spare port. The wiring harness that is part of the kit would have the correct connector on it to allow you to plug in. The sensor holes must be 22 mm (before you drill I will gladly double check my installation guide.) I tried to drill some holes in the correct location (they are marked on the back of the bumper) on a scrap E93 bumper and am not satisfied with the results so if I decide to proceed I think I will just order a bumper fascia with the holes predrilled and have it painted to match. I would not want to mess up my non-PDC bumper because the E93's may not be sold in North America with that option- according to BMW those bumpers would then be in violation of our bumper standards. What I believe is more correct is that BMW would like us to buy an upper-level series that is more costly -- our cars already arrive with several holes/cut outs in the bumper fascia - those for tow hooks, headlamp washers etc but that this should be reserved for a different rant. You will also need to order a new switch bank that may include the buttons for heated front seats, a rear blind and other items as well as the button to turn on and off the front PDC. By the way, the wiring harness taht goes to the switch bank buttons is already prewired for all functions so you do not have to mess about with that wiring. After you install or have all of this installed you will need to take your car to your nearest BMW stealer to activate the additional hardware (approx half hour labour). I can access part numbers in Canada but the US dealers cannot. I asked Jason at Tischler but he was unable to get them- I am sure they would be far less expensive through him but no such luck. The long and short of it is that it is possible but seems to be quite expensive if you want the look of PDC as it would appear from the factory. I would be glad to get more info if you would like it.

I want side PDC. I like to drift into parking spaces, and would like to get it just right.

Many thanks dentate, Im assuming once fitted as suggested that the function will have to be programmed into the I drive, shame as i suppose there is no real way of testing the car prior to taking it to the stealers. If you could get hold of a copy of the installation guide then that would be a great help!
Many thanks again for your assistance! |

there is a commercial for Bridgestone (yuk) tires that runs in the U.S. that shows several cars drifting into parking spaces... one of which is an E90. Pretty cool commercial actually.
