While some are obsessing about the M3/4

I am obsessing about this car

and it does not sound like a lawnmower.

Or a weedwacker. Lol!

All kidding aside, the Porsche Flat-Six is Legendary, but I think with some modification the S55 engine in the M3/M4 can sound a little less weedwacker-ish.

I really hope so. I really loved the M3 when the E46 was around, and really really loved that v8 in the E9x. This s55 though, its just not my cup of tea. While I like turbo engines, and I think the S63tu is a complete maniac, I rather enjoy a N.A engine, for it's sound and linear power delivery. Something about one wave of power after another does it for me. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy turbo cars and I love my M5, I just wish that ///M would make something that competes on a GT3 level. Some stripper that looks, sounds, and goes all night all.

Sounded like a sewing machine though. I feel almost sorry for feeling this way esp when the engine in question has such legacy. I am just not feeling the Porsche flat-6. The 991 GT3's lump does sound a lot better in my opinion, but still not as glorious as the S65 in the M3.

Iv heard the sewing machine comment before. I think its a thing with Porsche at lower RPMs, but past 3k it sounds different, and at 5-6k RPMs it sounds different again, and right before redline its different again. If you put aftermarket exhausts, it will not sound like a sewing machine at all.

I am so confused by this as I remember all of the outrage when the e9x m3 with a V8 had people up in arms that it didn't have an inline 6 now it the opposite :

Don't be confused. The reason is that no matter what you do, you'll always be making some group of haters with nothing better to do spreading their hate.

All these cars are amazing in their own rite. To hell with the haters and the hate they espouse.

U are probably right. I need to climb into one with an aftermarket exhaust to sample it one of these days.

Yeah, sadly so. I just received the refund for the Sepang GT3 event that got cancelled due to the stop-drive order. If not for that, I should be a happy owner-to-be of the GT3. Still hope to own one some day for sure!

I honestly don't think the S55 engine is going to sound as bad as we think it does. And can I guarantee it's going to have a much better induction sound than the S63tu engine. Can't wait to hear one straightpiped though.

Not a typical GT3RS sound. This is a bored and stroked motor that was turned into a 4.1L. There's a good write up on this exact car in the current issue of Panorama magazine. Compares the 3.8, 4.0 and this 4.1 conversion. Talks about the sound characteristics as well.

Im not a new M4 hater. I have seen the car, been in it and really like it, but it is not on the same level as a GT3. GT3 rides better, sportier, faster around a track, and sounds like sex. Constantly screaming in your face, and not to mention the control you have over her and how she responds. After all, the previous M3's all did that.
