Fitting Alpine upgrade near London
Hi all,
First of all, sorry if this is in the wrong section (i'm at work and new to this forum so haven't read the entire rules!) I will be collecting the Alpine upgrade kit for £396 including the side mouldings for my 2007 E92 with the most basic BMW Professional set up. I have been quoted £389 from BMW to fit it. £45+VAT per hour from a indie (i'm guessing they will charge me around 3.5 hours labour when it is done). I would ideally like to do it myself but just dont have a suitable place nor the tools required otherwise I have taken on similar projects before. Is there anybody in the London are (i'm in south London) that could give a helping hand? Of course, I will be willing to pay you in cash for your time and effort. Again, I apologise if this is in the wrong section. |

Just paid £175 to get it fitted. Happy with it all, one thing.... My luck, one of the crossovers are faulty!!!
I hope BMW will replace it after spending £400 on this kit |

to prove its faulty under BMW warranty chances we you'll need to book it in at your local dealer for verification as with all fitted parts that aren't fitted by the dealer if there's an issue they will only except a warranty claim if a parts at fault if the cars returned to them for inspection, if it's at fault they'll verify and exchange the sort nude warranty if it's nit at fault and say down to install ..... I'll let you guess the rest.

Hi, Thanks for this response, but this seems a bit vague to me. There is no requirement to actually own a BMW vehicle to order parts. Considering I purchased the part as a gift AS IS and it was faulty, how am I supposed to prove to them it is faulty without a car? They sold me a speaker system with a faulty connection. Surely it's up to them to show that it is indeed in working order or to replace it? |

It's a bit inconvenient as your car will have to be booked in to the local dealers service dept.(it won't be any good just taking the offending crossover in to them) but it'll be the only way as they'll need to check not only what you're reporting but I suspect the install and correct coding has taken place. Sounds long winded trouble is it is just that. But that's warranty for you |

Thanks for the info, appreciate it. Do you know if these cross over cables can be ordered separately? or alternatively if labour to prove fault is covered under warranty?

umm tricky one if you are to say that they know these things are well packaged and trust me you want your local parts department on your side if you want to pull a fast one and they feel you are you could mark your own card.

Update **
So, dropped car off to Cooper BMW earlier this week. Today the initial call I received had the service guy begin waffling about the Alpine upgrade being installed incorrectly and how they would need to rip it all out. I promptly stopped him. I explained that I knew exactly how it all worked and even diagnosed the error myself (in the crossover wire). I told him all I needed him to do was to confirm the cross over was not working (by trying it in the working side to see if it stops it working) and to replace this one wire which I even conveniently unplugged and left in it's box in my boot for them. A few hours later I called to see what was up. I was told the workshop managed to get the passenger side speakers working and they even agreed to drop my car off and post my keys through the letter box! Nothing to pay as it is all under warranty. As long as the speakers are actually working, I would say result? |

As I thought. The car came back exactly as I left it with them. Albeit it was washed, there is now a scratch on the passenger door AND the crossover that didn't work is still sitting in the boot untouched. I don't even know what to say.

I just feel like i've had enough. Do you guys know what the chances are that they will at least sort the scratch out? I'm giving up on the speakers slowly. I don't think I will ever hear that tweeter work.

Believe me, if I could order another crossover wire alone I would. I can't find the part number anywhere and I'm not spending £400 again just for another Alpine Kit. |

Wasn't the part number on the crossover packaging or it had a label on it!?
Speak to service manager! Did they go round the car & take a note of any damage when you dropped the car off? |

Btw does anybody know if the crossovers are interchangeable with aftermarket ones? I think I will sort the problem myself and just order a pair. |
