Can you determine Model Year from the VIN?

I took delivery of my E90 today. When I informed the auto insurance company of my VIN, they said that in their computer the data showed my car to be a 2005 model. Did anyone else have a similar experience?

I put my VIN # by itself on yahoo search and the yr / Model and where it was made popped up on my screen. Give it a shot and see what it says.

The 10th Digit is the year. Starting with 2000 0, 2001 1, if you go backwards 1999 Z, 1998 Y.

You can get the year and month of build from the last 7 digits of your VIN on the dealers parts system

how do you decipher the vin? I just got my vin# from the dealer and tried to register for owner's club but it won't let me. Do I have to wait until the car is registered at DMV before it will work? My car doesn't get to port until June 19th.

I took a good look and my 10th digit is a 6. I wonder why the car insurance company can't tell though?

I think our Friands in the USA are trying to be clever and are calling their E90's a 2006 model.... hmmm.......

Can anyone confirm that there is now a "P" for the plant in Leipzig ?
Also I have a "0" in the place where the model year should be..and it's a 2005 e90...
Usually there should be a 5 if your images would be correct.
